I love the optomism in this thread and like his coaching pedigree but from a recruiting aspect, on the surface and 1st impression, it's kind of lukewarm. We don't know if he can recruit and he certainly never has at the SEC level. Maybe he just has the kind of personality that will make him a recruiting machine but nothing in his past history indicates that he can recruit at a high level. Contacts and knowing people in Texas and LA does not make for a good recruiter. Ensminger has those and look how he does. Kragthorpe has ties to Texas as well and that didn't exactly pay huge dividends. I'll give him a chance before saying for sure but 1st impression leaves me a little unsatisfied. Hopefully more change is on the way to help with recruiting.

He has recruited the areas before, by all accounts has a great personality, can sell his NFL experience, and is a young black WR himself so he can absolutely relate to most of these players.

Well, with three coaches with ties in Texas, LSU has NO excuse but to raid Texas this coming season.

And with Texas down this past year I think we should get some big namers.

People are saying LSU won't sign a full class next year. Don't know if I believe that, even if we sign a full class this year. We're going to have A LOT of underclassmen leave next year. At least 3, IMO. And that doesn't account for other types of attrition, which surely will happen.
I could see us taking about 15 instate prospects and getting 10 OOS. I'm hoping this is the year we finally gain our OOS swag again.
IMO, I think Smith is the best prospect in the state but I doubt he gets that praise this season due to his position.

Check out Dandydon tomorrow, I am betting that he lists Smith as the #1 prospect in LA. I would say that the praise is coming!

I definitely see what your saying and I mentioned it previously. He hasn't recruited in a long time.
What I know about him...
He recruited some pretty dang good receivers and coached them up at McNeese. McNeese always knew he was moving up. He was pegged as a fast riser early. Players love him. His personality is taylor made for recruiting. That's why I said I think he can be a national type guy. He doesn't need to rely on his connections to get him in the door. I still have some reservations as far him being out of the game for a while but I don't think it will take him long to get up to speed. I think he ends up being a big, pleasant surprise.

I think "raid" is a strong word.

Steven Whitehead
Quinten Lawrence

If only LSU had a playmaker like BJ Sams, comparatively of course.

Yeah I haven't ridden my bike in some time but I bet I still can. recruiting should come back to him easily.

I'd take a clone of BJ Sams right now.

While some might be dismissive of experience at McNeese, we shouldn't forget it is one of THE premier FCS programs in the country.
After Appy State, Ga. Southern, Montana, and maybe Delaware, McNeese is right there. Plus, of all of those, only McNeese is located in anything resembling an SEC recruiting environment (excepting Ga Southern).
Without the NFL experience, I'm not sure this hire would have the "pop" everyone would like, but the whole resume is very, very impressive - a good blend of experience - he played college ball in Louisiana, but is from the Texas side of the line - coached in Louisiana. A very well rounded resume for a guy ~40.

Well, here in the last few years, they've been pretty middle of the road. I don't know if it's a coincidence that they've been that way since Henry left.
But hopefully, we'll be back on the road and in the playoffs again. As long as the defense would step up. Geez.

I still remember Kerry Joseph throwing it as far as he could, and Henry running under it. I miss those days sooooo much. I really like the hire. I don't know AH personally but I had a few classes with him. He was a really outgoing and a personable guy.I think the receivers he works with are gonna love being coached by him.

Henry will lock up Smith, Quinn (if offered), and anybody else we like from Houston, Beaumont/Golden Triangle, and Lake Charles/SWLA, . The guy is very personable and I think will help us tremendously both coaching and recruiting.

thats great to hear..
if he steps up today, and locks up patterson too, he will immediately vault to glory

He can't. I'm pretty sure coaches are on a dead period now.

dead period so no contact allowed...though i can't see where it could hurt lsu's chances w/ patterson, knowing that you will be coached by a guy who has been in the league the last 4 or 5 years.
