I woke up this morning, got everything loaded in the truck and AGP called me to let me know National Guard had everything blocked off so we probably wouldn't be let down there.

After the water continued rising. We had to be rescued via boat by LDWF.  At the time our house had 4 ft of water surrounding it and luckily our house was built up and we only had about 6 inches in the house.  We are told that the water continued rising. We were brought to a shelter with around 2000 other people.  After staying there for a few hours a friend who lived in Reserve was able to come pick us up.  We were very fortunate, because had he not, we would've been bused to shelters across the state. I have no idea what we will do from here, our house was heavily damaged.

I've been so focused on now now now that I haven't really processed this shite happening 7 years to the day and good people losing everything they owned, just like I did 7 yrs ago

I'll process it later, break down and cry like a baby and get over it and keep fighting for Louisiana

We went down there for a few hours today. They wanted more civilian boats but the Wildlife and Fisheries were struggling to find places to launch them since the waters were receding. Headed back home around 11AM.

Sorry to hear about your house, and I am praying for you and your friends and family. I know it probably seems senseless right now, but you'll get through it, and life will go on one day at a time!

No. They wanted to pair us with a deputy, but they just couldn't find launch spots.

I made the decision to move further away from the coastline for various reasons. I did not see a future where I was. They were also starting to charge 3, 4, and 5K for house insurance. This was right after Katrina. I moved about an hour north after having spent my entire life in one small town. I pulled up all my family's roots and made a whole new life. It was the most difficult decision I ever made. It was also the best decision I ever made. These things I am reading on here are weighing heavy on my heart. I wish you all the best. One thing I learned is home is where you make it. You can start over even in a new place.

I can say no one was really blocking roads or even checking IDs or asking why you were headed to Laplace. People were coming and going. Didn't really see too many boats passing through the Riverlands neighborhood, but there were a few high water trucks running through seeing if anyone needed help.
