I’m not very knowledgeable on what the best stuff currently is. We have older vinyl that we’re about to replace.

Is the newer laminate stuff pretty much the best currently? Any recommendations on brands or where to look?

If I were building, my whole home would be vinyl plank.

Installed LVP having removed carpeting and water damaged wood flooring. It was a great choice.

Engineered hardwood from Mohawk. Wanted something that felt like hardwood but would hold up a little better. Happy with it so far.

Not real hardwood, been there done that.

My main floor of our last home was real hardwood throughout. The kids and dogs were brutal on it. Had to be refinished after 7 years.

porcelain tile that resembles wood. wide plank scraped look.

had engineered hardwood and scored stain concrete from 2003 build. the flood of 2016 ruined all that.

I was able to keep the room(a) that has porcelain tile post flood, so we went with that throughout the house for the rebuild.
Just get a good tile guy to make sure they all level.

Real wood and marble. All that fake stuff looks like crap.

I’ve got lots of different flooring depending on location

My general favorite is reclaimed heart pine. I have a lot of that and it’s been great stuff. Quality installation is key. Gotta leave some room for it to move with temperature and moisture. Can’t beat the look though.

I also have the engineered flooring which is Shaw brand and it’s been good. It won’t allow much refinishing though since it’s a laminate of real wood and fairly thin. It’s fairly easy to install.
Look for thick laminate , long boards and the wider the better.
The best brand imo is a company out of Tennessee but forgot the name. Family fun and high quality.
Avoid the stuff from Lowe’s and Home Depot as it can come from China and they cut the laminate poorly. They also don’t have thick laminate and generally provide short boards.

vinyl is a no brainer in my camps because of moisture and ease of cleaning. Real easy to install.

We did LVP throughout the entire house. Very happy we did. We have kids and dogs who are rough on floors and destroyed our engineered wood floors at previous home. I worry a lot less about these floors than I would another type. Also they aren’t cold like tile.

We did a glue down engineered distressed white oak with an oil finish. They were installed in 2016 and with kids and a dog in the house, still look as good as the day they were installed.

We did LVP in our entire house except tile in bathrooms during a remodel last year. Looks great and has held up well.

LVP everywhere except bathrooms/laundry and absolutely have no regrets. It is tough as hell and dont have to worry about it. When we redo the living room/kitchen/dining we are probably going to go with a white oak as a poster mentioned above since out of all the woods it supposedly is super tough and hard to frick up.

LVP is a great option. Nearly indestructible, looks good, lots of choices.

I put LVP in in several rooms and have been happy with it. Strangely enough several flooring people said they prefer laminate over LVP, never really got a good reason though.

Did this in our entire house and we have throw rugs in every bedroom, under dining room table, and the area by the tv where the kids like to play on the floor.

Had most of the rugs about 5 years and contemplating replacing the two in the living area for a new look.

Get engineered wood. LVP can and will be just as $$$ as hardwood. A light color and your floor will be timeless
