I have a pretty small backyard, probably about 25x50. It’s not really big enough for my boys to do much in, so I’m contemplating putting a pool in.

Without commentary on whether or not to do it, anyone have a rough idea of what a pool, a grilling area, and landscaping will cost in a yard my size?

Thanks in advance.

I’m fairly ignorant on the topic, but I’m guessing gunite. Does it look nicer and hold up better?

I texted a friend, who installs pools, your post.

He said you’re looking at 35k-50k.
But as with anything, how nice and what materials could adjust that number up or down... a lot.

Keep in mind that whatever you spend on a pool will not add any value to your house.
IMO, I'd only put in a pool if I were planning on living there for many years.

I just dropped close to $70k for a gunite pool. This is pool, decking, coping, and equipment only.

Upgraded travertine deck and coping added a shite ton as well.

FWIW.

I also have a tiny backyard. Thought it was too small for a pool but pool builders nowadays will customize it any way possible to fit the yard. Just hope you don’t have any easements to work around. I think our small pool/hot tub (pool is I think 7500 gallons) was around 60k plus another few thousand for landscaping. I didn’t even do a grill area bc I’m a shitty cook anyway.

I too have a small backyard. Just put in a 15,000 gallon gunite pool for $35,000 with all the equipment and roughly 700 sq ft of concrete. Brother in law has a landscape company so I’ll be getting the materials at cost but even without that, the whole job can be done for under $40,000. Our house is new and the back patio already had the grill/TV area

This is why I just bought a 32x16x52” above ground pool for the back yard. Got it for 1500 plus another 1500 to install. I expect it to last me about three to five years and by that time we will have gotten our moneys worth. Even if we don’t, at least it’s not 50k I need to spend that never adds value to my home.

Call me trashy but at least I now have a simple pool to cool off a few times a year.

Had our pool built last year. I think it was $40k all in. 15,000 gallons. Not sure what all people do for landscaping around their pool, but a couple of yards of fill dirt and a pallet of grass was an afternoon worth the work and nowhere near $10k in value. . .

I am currently building a 400 sq ft pavillion for shade doing virtually all of the labor myself. I'm in less than $5k in it but I can't imagine someone building it for less than $15-20K.

As far as the amount of work a pool is, it's a piece of cake. Keep your PH and chlorine levels where they should be and life is easy. I spent maybe $120 in chlorine and muratic acid last year. Wash the filters when your psi rises every 3 months or so. Sweep it before you swim and enjoy. Depending on your landscape, it could be a little more work. Trees dropping leaves in your pool is a beating. Fortunately/unfortunately I don't have the option for trees in my backyard. We have a solid rock 2' below our surface and it would take YEARS before anything could grow to a meaningful size.

Wow prices have really gone up. My 15,000 gallon gunite pool was 18K 23 years ago and included everything except the landscaping. Now I’m ready to fill it in and be done with it, which will probably cost 10K. I can’t even guess how much I have spent through the years for pumps, replaster, chemicals, etc.
