Battling Oxalis Weeds

Each year around this time, my gardens begin to fill with Oxalis weeds (similar to these). I generally begin the fall season by keeping up with picking them, but as they multiply and proliferate into winter, I inevitably fall behind and end of saying *blank* it. The weeds always subside in the early part of spring, and we begin anew.

Any tips or recommendations for either controlling or completely eradicating these nuisances? If location makes a difference, I am in the Bucktown neighborhood of Metairie.

Thanks!

If you find out, let me know. I've been battling oxalis for a few years now and it is damn hard to eradicate----especially since I've had no luck.

I've battles nut grass, bush killer vine, purslane and now oxalis. The weeds seem to run in spurts as to which ones are giving me trouble, but I've had a vegetable garden for close to 30 years running, so I've seen them all at one time or another.

I just sprayed my front and backyards last week. I had oxalis everywhere. I used Weed Free Zone and Atrazine. Within 2 days most of it was shriveled and dead. I also did a second application about 3-4 days later since it appeared that I must have missed some areas because they were still green. I used a 1 gallon pump sprayer and mixed about 4.5 ounces of Atrazine and a little less that 2 ounces of Weed Free Zone. I'm also on the south shore.

Driving me insane. It blows my mind how they seem to reappear full size in 24 hours.

Atrazine weed killer. But even that will take several applications and maybe over several years to get rid of it once those things take root.

In your garden/flowerbed? Why can’t you just use round up?

Prodiamine 3x a year and spot spray with Certainty if needed. Certainty is safe for bedding plants and vegetable gardens

Hate oxalis.

I finally got it out of my lawn.

It moved to the flower beds

Got it out of the flower beds

Moves to actually growing into the bushes.

It's the damn devil.

bush killer vine

Never knew the name for this vine I fricking hate so bad. Gives me fits in my backyard's landscaping.

That stuff is insane the way it grows. The least little bit on the ground can take root and start growing a new vine.

I made the mistake of using a weed eater to cut some of that stuff off a chain link fence about 30 years ago when the fence was totally overgrown with it.

The juice from that vine had me itching so bad I had to stop and go take a shower.

I'm not allergic to poison ivy and was surprised how fast that stuff had me in misery. Good thing was, once the plant juices were washed off it didn't itch for much longer.

Good to know. I'm not allergic to PI either so I'm pretty reckless around weeds.
