Any roofers here give me an idea of what it cost to raise ceilings 1 to 1.5 feet

Single story house is about 1800 ft.² with 8 foot ceilings currently. I'm also getting a new roof anyway which I assume would help to some degree. Will be part of a minor remodel that will also involve turning a garage into an additional room. Any recommendations in Metairie are appreciated.

You want to make your interior ceilings a foot?

That really has nothing to do with the roof, and would be hella expensive. It would involve lifting joists, removing/installing insulation, decent electrical and HVAC, and decent drywall work.

Bruh you would have to rebuild your house. Maybe you could fur out the ceiling in a room or two but to raise every ceiling you would have to demo and rebuild every wall. Relocate lights, a/c and heater, water heater....roof work has almost 0 to do with what you're talking about

Sell your house and build a new one. It will be way cheaper.

Quit watching HGTV's home renovation shows. What you are asking is not impossible, but certainly nowhere near cost effective.

Like already mentioned, better to build another house for what that would cost, and it has ZERO tie in to replacing a roof------that makes about as much sense as saying I want to add a garden since my roof is being done.

No offense, but you have no idea what you are asking. Raising the ceilings would require major structural work, re-wiring all electrical, all new HVAC, etc.

This is a complete gut job, the polar opposite of minor.

Have you thought about making the floor a foot lower?

raising the entire ceiling throughout is almost impossible.

Look into doing a tray ceiling.

Makes me wonder how many clueless people got into house flipping after watching some of those shows and seeing the hosts making $50K+ on a flip in that hour long show.

First off, to make money doing that you have know what the hell you are doing, buy in the right area, be in the right market, buy low, have good contractor crews and know how to show the houses for their best look.

I've got a friend who got into flipping houses in N.O. not long after Katrina when he could buy low, fix them up and sell for a nice profit. He no longer is doing business in New Orleans with the market so high that flipping doesn't make much sense right now.

He's actually doing a lot of business in St. Bernard working with Parish officials and getting vacant lots to build houses on. That brings in more residents, adds to their tax base and other parts of their economy.

Just put some shiplap up and resell for 100k above purchase.

Something I have noticed. The spec home flips from reputable contractors seems to have changed a little. Have noticed contractors buying potential homes and sitting on them with a package plan to renovate, once a buyer is found.

You would be better off shrinking you and your wife 1.5 ft.

That's all well and good if the contractor has the money to just sit on homes for however long it takes to find a buyer. The bank note and insurances are not cheap to just let a property sit around in today's market. That could eat into profit if a buyer isn't found quickly.

It could be a good deal for the buyer as they can get in there and put their stink on the floorplan to have it the way they envision their new home as long as it works within the parameters the contractor set aside for.

As long as it stays close to the buying/selling point where both parties are happy.

You could probably do tray ceilings but it will depend on what's above.

It will not be minor though

This may have hit the nail squarely on the head. Women watch these shows and see them basically rebuilding a house in an hour TV show and think it's really that easy.

Then the ideas start percolating in that gray matter they possess between their ears without really giving it much thought as to what it takes to do something like this.
