Here's a rule. Posters that bitched enough to cause this mess aren't allowed on the new board. If they go there they give up their right to RA. If they go and RA they get banned.

You would think that would go without saying, but apparently they couldn't control themselves from clicking on threads. Why should a board be any different?

It is if those discussions are not allowed anywhere else...obviously.

It'd be like saying we couldn't talk about the NBA anywhere on the current site. So no threads are created. Ok, well if a board were to open up all those "non-threads" about the NBA would magically appear.

Would Tai Chi threads go on the Religion board or Fitness board?

Religion threads worked on PT because of the users who frequented that board, and didn't work on the OT for precisely the same reason. The few threads per week on PT that dealt with religion simply worked.

While I enjoy reading and occasionally participating in such threads, I don't think creating another board to host such discussions is really warranted.
Agree 100%.

I agree. If a person is continually RA'ing religious threads, and let's say I'm an Admin hypothetically: I respond by going in and looking at the RA's. If the RA's by this user appear to not be flame worthy and this user is not actively participating on the board I'd PM them "If you don't like the board...stop going there"

What about this...

SciTech / Philosophy Board - A board dedicated to discussions on technology, science, evolution, existentialism, and associated philosophical inquiries. Debates encouraged.

Religion Board - A board dedicated for discussions purely on religion. Prayer requests, honest questions on Christianity, biblical discussions, discussions on church policies, world religions, etc. Debates not encouraged.

Thus, theists and believers who just wanted to discuss their religion, or pose a question, could do so without the possibility of being subtly mocked or openly castigated, while all those interested in debating could frequent the other board.

Just an idea.

Actually, I think having a board devoted to philosophy would be something I would be very active in. I didn't post other threads as much before because I felt posters on the other boards would tire of it.

A "worldviews" board would cover all philosophy/religion and could incorporate science.

ETA: "Worldviews and Science" board

No need for a science board, already ties in to philosophy and religion.

It's just that you have numerous parties at work here.

You have the theists, who enjoy genuine discussion of religion and want to openly engage in conversation on various religious topics without arguing with other users.

You have the avid atheists who seek out and destroy any thread pertaining to religion in an effort to humiliate the religious posters and establish intellectual dominance.

You have the trolls, who could also be members of the two previous groups, but will post and create threads specifically to incite those with opposing viewpoints.

And a dedicated board to host all of this would simply result in a paroxysm of continuous conflict and rage.

Paint with broad strokes, don't you?

I don't remember you being a frequent member in religious discussions.

1. You're not a psychic.
2. You wouldn't have to click on it.

Don't see how this is an issue with the proposed ideas for the board.

I can only think of one, maybe two people who fit this description, and if they habitually break the rules then people can RA them.

This happens on every board in this site. The problem is people don't like their religious views questioned, which is the whole point of a philosophy/religion board anyway. Plus egregious are anchored/deleted anyway.

but I would like for there to be strong guidelines established upfront to prevent the recent trend that I have been seeing in religious threads

Meh. I think if it had it's own separate forum it would be better to just ban people who get out of line rather than trying to set too stringent of guidelines.

The general rules are good enough regarding flaming, trolling, etc.

Deletion of obvious flame topics like the Was Jesus Gay thread along with tough no troll enforcement.

WTF are you talking about?

It wasn't a flame or a troll.

Just posted an article from today that was newsworthy.

People are a tad hypersensitive around here.

I've been on the SEC Rant long enough to spot true trolling and flaming.

You might want to rethink that strategy.

I'd say to make flaming on the board a bannable offense. There is no sense in the constant flaming that goes on in the threads by both groups.

I didn't read it, just going off second hand info, my bad.
