what are the boards thoughts on StrongLifts? I am on week four right now. I haven't done much lifting since high school and I picked this specifically to work on leg strength.

Did it for a while and had good success. It gets a little much the more you progress. 5x5 with squats 3 times a week is fricking rough at those bigger weights and the time it takes to warmup to your proper weight, followed by 2-3 minute breaks between sets to recover and your time reallllly starts to add up.

I'd strongly recommend taking a look at Greyskull LP. It is a 3x5 but has you do an AMRAP (as many reps as possible) on the last set (up to 10). I found it to be a lot more enjoyable, personally, and I made more progress on it than I did doing SL 5x5

stronglifts is a decent program to start with but you are only going to be able to run it for 12-16 weeks before you stall completely then you have to switch to 3x5 and maybe eek another 4 weeks then to 1x5 and maybe get 2 or 3 more weeks. After that you should switch to mad cow which is a much better overall program.

But like was stated above, you could cut out all that bullshite and switch to the greyskull lp and run it for the next 3 or 4 years using the different templates. It also is mych more favorable to building muscle and is infinitly adaptable.

here is the link to my google drive with the greyskull books

I think it's a good way to get started and build a routine IMO. I'm on week 7 fwiw. I'll probably do it for 6-9 months total and then start to change it up/add to it.

It is a great program to start with and build an excellent base. Look into Ice Cream Fitness 5x5. Just a twist with more ancillary movements.

Doubt you make it that long before needing to switch to something with less volume.

btw other problem with stronglifts and starting strength is the reset and the lack of ability to set rep records. Sorry but if i have to reset, I don't wanna be doing the wieghts I have already done for the same number of reps, especially when I could push it for way more. On GSLP you get to set rep records everytime you go in.

IMO weight lifting should go something like this

those looking for strength
gslp-->5/3/1-->westside

those looking for balance of strength and muscle
gslp-->5/3/1

bodybuilding
gslp-->greyskull powerbuilding or versions or 5/3/1-->dc training or fortitude training

its simple progression. Honestly the greyskull and 5/3/1 programs are so adaptable for 95% of people they will be the only 2 programs they ever need to run. Well atleast the core principles. Things like the 12 weeks at greyskull, greyskull powerbuilding, 5/3/1 challenges and templates will provide plenty of variety and no matter the goal of the lifter they can adjust the program and stick to the core principles cutting/bulking/ or maintenance.
