Instead of drinking this football season I have been concentrating on the outdoors, and to get prepared for that I've been lifting.

The best thing was stop drinking. No hangovers and getting after it at 5am is very productive.

Today was leg day and what an awesome way to start the weekend. Will get a 4 mile walk with interval sprints this afternoon. Gonna kick the arse out of this weekend.

Stick with it. I gave it up 12/31/98. Best decision of my life.

I've been drinking considerable less for the past 3 or 4 months. Used to be a daily drinker (2 to 4 drinks per night) to drinking on weekends. Trying to just drink for social events this October. Since the October 1st I've had 3 beers. I'm sleeping a lot better but having difficulty initially falling asleep. Also, it seems like I need a lot more sleep to not be wanting to doze off at work. I've lost about 15 lbs since I started cutting back a few months ago.

Before it never felt like my life revolved around drinking but now it seems like it revolves around avoiding drinking. Damn sure want to keep it up though as overall I feel a lot better.

The last two nights I didn't sit down before bed and think "damn a drink would be nice". Felt good. Going to be having a few drinks at a wedding this weekend and then back off of it again.

I hear you. This kind of describes my situation too. I still indulge, and enjoy it, but I'm enjoying it less and less the more I cut down. It's scary to realize how "normal" that continuous hungover feeling was becoming.

Still riding baws. I did give in and had a couple margs last Saturday during the lsu game, but otherwise clean and workouts have been incredible. I guess you can call it mostly sober October now.

16 day streak. Before that I was drinking every night and binging on the weekends. It does feel good.

Trying to eat right too. Chicken and veggies. Keeping calorie count down. Down 6 lbs since October 1st. Want to drop another 12 lbs.

It’s fascinating how little the body needs to change. Love it, keep it up.

I hit my one year sober mark on Saturday night, and even attended a heater of a wedding with my friends in Nola, LSU was winning, spirits were high but I didn’t drink! It felt amazing to be able to drive home after and wake up without a hangover.

It’s only the first few months, maybe a year+ for rare cases, until it sticks.
Stay busy.
Hobbies, fitness, church, family, friends, sports, whatever to fill the time. It gets, not just easier… your values and priorities change and then your life gets a thousand times better than you ever could’ve imagined. If you’re wanting to be in AA then that will take care of itself as that fills all the gaps of time simultaneously.

Had my last drink 3/28/2012 and if anyone needs any insight or guidance just holler.

Total disclosure: I didn’t give up drinking for sober October. I gave it up because it became an issue and I don’t have the “off switch” many drinkers do.
