Any of you fellas have a home gym with a power rack? If so what are you using?

Also what other suggestions for equipment do you have? Outside of barbell/dumbbells? Hit me with it. I have weights, bars, farmers carry rigs already.

I have two options for a setup, open air garage(I need an 18 ft door.. which I don't have the dough for right now) OR spare bedroom. I currently have a projector set up for movies and games.. but I can move this out to the living room..something I think the rest of the family is hoping for. I have vaulted ceilings so space isn't really a concern.

I'd previously built a platform, power rack, and rower, dont really have an issue going this route. Want to see what's out there first though.

Bought a house this year, previously had a home gym set up before moving to an apartment for a year. S.O. is pretty much begging me to set up my stuff at home again since we have a newborn and me being missing from the house a few hours a week plus gym membership, gas, time, etc..

I have the older elitefts 6 post fully welded r3 rack
LINK

And the mid grade elite 0-90 bench.

Without knowing budget:
As far as what power rack, that's up to you. I would say rogue or elite or legend would be the best value or buy a used commercial unit from superfitness gym equipment. Reps fitness has one too. You are looking for 11g or lower thickness on the metal, 2" spacing or lower with 3" hole spacing being the max.

Get nice adjustable bench
Then nice set of wooden gymnastics rings

Then dumbbells

For weights- rogue has really nice cast iron but reps fitness is the best deal for accurate plates

For bars, nice power bar or the Ohio bar( I suggest two bars) then start grabbing specialty bars

After that for variety, I suggest a lat pulldown/ low row, the something like the sorinex hurricane and a functional trainer. Then look at things like ghd and reverse hyper

Thanks! This board is in desperate need of a sidebar sticky feature. I've dug up a ton of good threads randomly searching shite.

Budget is whatever I make it really. If I had to I'd just wait a little longer before cancelling the health club membership. I'm a buy once, cry once kind of guy. That said I also believe in quality and value.

How do you like your R3 rack Hu? I've liked everything I've ever gotten from Rogue. Currently eyeballing the R3 with straps. Do you have the 24" or 30". Was thinking of building the platform out from the rack to DL, but may save space and just DL in the rack.

As far as benches go, I'm looking at the Rep Fitness FID and Powerblock. Any others to consider? Not the best selection here, I'd like to keep the height at 18" and under, otherwise I can get my legs where I want.

Was definitely planning on picking up two bars, for nothing other than I am too lazy to take 45s off of a DL bar 1-2 times a week...

Took a look at Titan, but I'm not going to trust dropping 500lbs on those welds, unless I can see someone else.. I'd rather trust my carpentry.

Have a set of adjustable DBs, probably going to swap over to powerblock since they're expandable. Or piece together a decent set a little at a time.

I have about 450lbs worth of self calibrated plates.. meaning I took a grinder and wheel weights to them long ago. Just got rid of some bumpers, as I never plan on awkwardly chasing another snatch again in my life. I do plan on passing these on to the nephew and getting some nice ones eventually though.

I love my r3. If I were to deadlift in the rack,I'd get the slightly larger one.

I love my powerblocks. Mine go up to 70 at the moment. Going to move that up to 90 a little later.

My bench is a hoist. Super solid but heavy and a little tall. I'm going to be purchasing a flat bench to go with it soon and leave the adjustable off the platform for DB work.

I have the Ohio power bar and it is a very very good bar. Best I've used. However, like 777 said get two when you can. It's as stiff as it comes and is 29cm. Great for OHP, bench and squats but makes the deadlift harder and it's very bad for cleans and power movements. I'd suggest an all purpose for the second.

The platform I made is amazing also. Good for nose reduction and non slip surface. It also just looks cool.

I would get a fair amount of 41" bands for stretching and conjugate work.

I also have a few specialty bars with a curl bar and 5' bar.

Purchased a 30" pedestal fan from harbor freight that is clutch in the heat.

I plan to buy an all purpose or weightlifting bar next. Need some bumper plates first though. I would like a farmers carry set or trap bar after that. SSB bar would be awesome as well.

A landmine attachment would be great and is low key in taking up space. A rogue matador is awesome too for that on the rack for dips.

Oh I also have a whiteboard to put the workout on and it's great.

I ain't gonna a mechanics of materials problem to really figure it out but how much do you think that flat bench can hold with those 4 buh 4s?

I'd imagine as much as I can hold. There are a lot of screws and brackets on that bench.

so for bench, the reps fitness or the transformer bench from elite fitness systems would be my choice for a budget minded buy. The best would prolly be the rogue thats 3 way as rae crowther is slacking big time in quality the last year.

I love my powerblocks and for a smaller garage gym they are teh way to go. I started with the U-90 50lbs pack and have expanded as funds allowed up to 125 per side which is plenty for anyone other that a powerlifter and if it gets too light you can always use intensity techniques to make it harder.

as for bars, I would suggest a ohio power for inside the cage, raw shaft. For the other bar I would suggest the regular ohio bar in stainless or if you can get it as its in closeout only, the raw shaft and sleaves. THe raw shafts require a rub down with wd40 every once in a while but raw and stainless are amazing for grip and you will never go back to a coated bar if you can help it.

I have a regular ohio with raw shaft and texas power and very much prefer the ohio.

dbs then rings are best bet for adding exercises. also a dip bar is a must honestly.

instead of a hurricane you could get these from black widow who makes awesome equipment. get those and the different handles and you are set. or you could do two of the strips from rogue and two landmines. Both ways allow you to adjust up and down to be able to do machine like work, but the black widow way is kind of better because of having the second safety to allow for lift off, with the strip and landmines you don't but you gain the full 3d movement the hurricane allows.

as mentioned bands are great for offering ability to change strength curves.

nice jump rope, sandbags, and a sled with seperate handles like blast straps or rings add a ton of variety.

a weighted vest and di belt help a lot too as you can turn bodyweight exercises into weighted exercises that are great for muscle building.

You are going to find that you are able to do things you never thought of or were able to do in the gym like walking lunges with the bar, overhead walks etc. Also you will find yourself getting creative and finding exercises that work with your body to really isolate the muscle.

as far as cardio equipment-

for rower I would suggest either the C2 or xebex. Xebex is heavier and honestly the better machine except for the screen which is not nearly as good, but it does count the same as the C2.

For air bike, I would suggest the Air mill from getrxd.

other cardio equipment that is worth having at home would be the versa climber and a skierg.

Have you heard anything on the rep fitness flat bench? I might have to resort to that over the rogue 2.0 flat for the price.

He post on bb.com and takes feedback and really does take it to heart so I would imagine it would be a great alternative. Try searching bb.com equipment forum

In a rush, will respond to other things later, but this is what I found on the Rep Fitness bench.
Youtube Link to Review

Also impressed with their involvement on boards taking feedback answering questions will definitely be getting my plates from them. Probably standard but i like the look of there grip plates too.

There grip plates are calibrated within 2% too. If I wasn't going with the rogues, I would have choose those over ivankos because of price

Well they aren't calibrated like powerlifting plates but are just like the top of the line cast iron plates like ivanko and rogue and top of the line Troy plates.

Thinking about getting an Ohio Power bar for presses and squats. At 29mm there should be no whip.

Looking at the Get RXd Texas bar for DL and cleans with no center knurl. 28mm a bit more whip, i love pulling the slack out on DLs. Id get the deadlift bar at 27mm if i wasnt going to clean honestly.

Thinking im going to get their grip plates, they look too nice to cheap out on 20% over the standards.

Btw Hu, unless youve got the worst plates of all time, plates arent usually too bad. When i calibrated the Cap plates i have there were all +/- 1lb. Which is fine unless youre in the olympics imo.

I bought my Rogue squat rack off of Craigslist. Don't regret it one bit.
