I do get that people call that fasting. But if you are eating every day for roughly 1/2 the time you are awake it isn't really fasting.

This is how people develop eating disorders. Just take your lumps from eating like a fatass on vacation and get back to your diet. Actual weight gain from that sort of thing is a lot less than people think as long as you get back to eating well.

That's not to be confused with properly planned fasts or IF.. but compensatory behavior for eating poorly is not a good path to fall on.

There are lots of positive articles about fasting occasionally.

fasting for 60 hours is starving yourself

so you ate too much on vacation. Who cares? get back on the wagon and it will come right off

Not if you have the fat stored as fuel already.

The record for fasting is 382 days. It was medically supervised also.

Everyone I know that didn't change their diet for life ends up getting fat, use some crash diet to lose the weight, then put it back on because you can't live on crash anything.

He was a huge man. He quit eating for nearly 400 days. He took vitamins, water, and I believe coffee. He suffered no ill effects because he was still getting the vitamins he needed and he had stored a couple years of energy on him.

There is more and more evidence mounting that fasting for 3 days once a year, can help eradicate the body of cancer cells

The 382 day fast study

60 hrs is really nothing. I've done 72hr before and it is astounding what you can get accomplished not cooking or eating. I've heard of people only eating on the weekends, or fasting for two weeks every quarter, or alternate day eating.

People lead amazing and interesting lives.

Why not just so intermitten fasting instead of this dumb shite?

No way could I do the workouts I do without eating something.

A lot of times reverse dieting can help. You'll reach a point where it's hard to progress. So an increase in calories for a short amount of time can help. It can also speed up your metabolism. Then you gradually reduce calories again.

yea I don't understand why people are saying that 60+ hours is extreme. Now if you are trying to lift on it, sure but in the grand scheme its not even close and is very very good for you health wise.

Now for vanity reasons, two 36 hour fast is better than a 72 hour fast as around the 36-40 hour mark your body switches to burning muscle and continues to ramp this process up.

But as far as the OP goes, its not extreme if you dont do it all the time. As a mental fortitude thing, or health decision its a very good thing.

Curious as to where this was found. I'm not disagreeing, but I figured it would be a bit longer.

I have lost 70lbs since Jan. This is no crash diet, I made a life style change in eating and being active. The fast that I did was just to get some of those excess sugars and processed chemicals that I put into my body. I feel so much better now. Last night I had salmon and roasted broccoli.

Wasn't that extreme. I only got hungry a couple of times. I have a good bit more of energy at work now and it is actually making my walks in the morning a whole lot better.

Do you think one 36 hour fast per week is good? I know it is doable

I typically eat one meal a day at night after I've ran. I'll skip breakfast and lunch every day and just eat a big meal for dinner. The hard part for me would be going to sleep on an empty stomach.

I have done that for a couple of weeks off and on. It has worked well for me too. 23/1 or 22/2 fasting has it's benefits and may be the most effective.

I started the IF deal about 2-3. I was staying between 218-220

I'm about 204 right now. No loss of strength. I'd the extra weight off has greatly helped me with gymnastics/calisthenics exercises. Muscle ups feel easy as hell for me now.

If I did a really long fast I don't think I could lift without feeling like I'd pass out. Days when I eat very little I will struggle.
