Does anyone else experience severe carb craving? Anytime I try and restrict carbs from 100g-150g a day I immediately start getting headaches and feel very hungry. Tonight for dinner I ate a grilled porkchop, green beans, and a small portion of mashed potatoes and an hour later I was starving. Are some of us just more sensitive with our blood sugars or are there any tips to help these cravings?

Yeah my job and diet has really hurt me the past few years. I now sit behind a desk most of the day and eat like crap. I am trying to incorporate some lifestyle changes and I know carbs go straight to my belly. One of the biggest challenges is cooking for the family in the evenings, a weakness is stopping by fast food and coming home and eating because its quick.

I went from eating like you described to eating about 30 carbs a day. After about 10 days I was fine. I just took the attitude that it was a challenge type deal. I knew it would suck at first, but I would get over it quickly. Now I never crave carbs and the few times I've eaten into the hundreds I've felt bad afterwards.

Usually it takes me 2-3 days and I'm fine. I have been eating 20 carbs or so for a month. Zero trouble. Not so much headaches as it is my joints hurt for a few day, especially my jaw.

If eating low carb doesn't fit your life style, don't do it. Try tracking your macros and using iifym. More than one way to skin a cat.

or if you like eating low carb, fully commit and go less than 50g a day and go ketogenic. Your body will adapt, and you'll feel great after a couple weeks. In that 100g gray area, your body isn't quite sure what to do. I've seen it calles "low carb limbo." You're not low enough carb to force ketosis and reduce insulin spiking, but not consistently high enough to have tons of energy.

but you wouldn't. Not saying you should, but everyone could do it. The important thing is to increase water intake and supplement electrolytes as your body transitions into being adapted to ketogenic state.

White potatoes are high on the glycemic index...causes hunger.
Read "Sugar Busters".

Just to clarify - you are restricting carbs from your usual 100-150/day or 100-150 day IS your restriction from an even higher level? Because 100-150 is a shitload of carbs (although not nearly as much as the preposterously "recommended" 300/day by the government.)

It's really not hard at all. Breakfast: Scrambled eggs, bacon, maybe a piece of sausage, regular coffee. Lunch: Salad with tuna or grilled chicken, cucumbers, broccoli, pickles, and pepperoncini. Full fat ranch or Italian dressing. Snack bulletproof coffee or pork skins. Dinner: chicken, fish, or steak with broccoli or green beans. If still hungry I'll have sugar free jello with a tsp of frozen cool whip or a couple tsp of natural peanut butter. Drink 100oz of water or so and some green tea every day.

Exactly, unless you are doing it for health reasons or it fits your lifestyle then don't do true Keto. And 150g of carbs is not much at all and prolly about where you should be( just guessing here based off type of questions asked)

Look there are advantages to Keto, most notably hunger control once the addiction to sugar is broken, which is where you are now. But unless it's capatible to your lifestyle then don't do Keto if you aren't going to stick to it.

The are slight thermogenesis advantages to a traditional Keto diet and certainly many health benifits, but let's not try to fit a square peg into a round hole, that's stupid.

The small benefits you gain from being Keto are small in the long run, even the health benefits compared to losing the fat in general.

Intermittent fasting, Keto, carb backload, carb cycling,, fat fasting and psmf all work 95% because of a caloric deficit and all off small metabolic and nutrition partitioning effects with Keto offering the smallest advantages of them all, but they are all useless unless you stick to it. Unless you are weird like myself and like being a test subject and being a glutton for punishment stick to something you can sustain until you reach your goals. Useless otherwise and if you feel deprived all the time you are going to develop an unhealthy relationship with food due to binges and the guilty feeling you get. That's what we want to avoid.

Now me, carbs upset my stomach, the lower on the glycemic index and the less processed they are the less trouble I get, so I choose to stick to higher fat diets or diets that are carb backloaded with carbs only intra and post lifting sessions. But that's me.

Rocket is about the same bf% as me and he eats pure if it fits your macros and enjoys all kinds of crazy shite, but he tracks calories, macros and measurments to make sure he stays where he wants. And once you get really good at it, you only need to track a few times a week(not that the shite is hard anyways).

Many people from the food and drink board have shredded tons of pounds, some upwards of a 100, using Keto style diets. Why were they able to do that, it fit their lifestyle.

Stop letting other people dictate what fits your lifestyle. Figure it out yourself through critical thinking and trial and error. I mean if you prefer oatmeal over eggs, the answer is clear.

If you think you have to be low carb to lose weight, google the Twinkie diet. Don't do it, but just understand how it works.

Good post.

I'm one of the F&D baws who dropped a ton of weight on Keto, but it's certainly just one of many ways someone can achieve their goals. The most important thing is for a particular person to choose something sustainable.

Spicy pork skins with jalapeño pimento cheese. No carbs, all kinds of delicious. French onion dip and guac are good with them too.

I got the idea that this IS why the OP was attempting to alter his eating habits. And frankly, unless one were involved in some competitive endeavor (racing, bodybuilding shows, etc.) why would health concerns ever be subordinated?

It's definitely enough to push someone into insulin resistance, which is most of what we should be attempting to avoid.
