Do the Ross package for $1600? Seems pretty steep but our group is willing to pay it.

Besides #2, what courses do we play?

Any of the lodgings better than the others?

#4, The Cradle, and the putting course (we really enjoyed that). We played 7 and 9 as well. If you can rent a house, it’s probably worth it the extra money. We stayed at The Holly and it was great. I thought it was awesome as it was my first visit and will definitely go back. The town itself is charming and the place is filled with history. Every employee was polite and accommodating. All in all i thought it was everything it was cracked up to be. And the Fox Squirrels look like badgers.

And FTR, when I went last November, no one at the facility was accepting cash (Covid restrictions ). So either bring a shite load of cash for tips or be prepared to pay for a Coke with your credit card. Not devastating, but annoying when all you have is large bills and you can’t get change easily. There’s an MBA branch close by but not much help on a weekend.

Just got back from 5 days last month. There were 8 of us and we played Thursday thru Tuesday morning.

Pine Needles site of next years women’s us open. (Not a Pinehurst resort course)
No. 8 the. The Cradle
No. 7 the. Played Tobacco Road in the afternoon (not a pinehurst resort course)
No. 2
No. 4 then the cradle
No. 9

One round per night stayed. Breakfast and dinner included. Most of us were at the Carolina with a couple at the holly. Carolina is main hotel and where breakfast is.

I played terrible but it was worth every cent. The staff treats you like gold and it is very peaceful. It’s the second time I have gone and will hopefully go back next year. Only have No. 1 and 6 left to have played them all.

Mind sharing what that set you back? Sounds amazing.

How far are Pine Needles and Tobacco Road from the resort?

Pine Needles is right down the road @10 minutes and was $150. Tobacco Road was 35 to 45 minutes away and was $175

The Pinehurst stay including golf, meals and nights was @$2800.

Flight from BR was $300. Other, rental car, stuff, lunches , tips, etc @$700

It was around $4000 when you split everything out.

We played
#2 - get a caddy and walk. Great experience
#3 - really fun. Shorter but greens same slope as #2
Cradle- great for afternoon drinks. Just fun and relaxing

Tobacco Road- not a Pinehurst property but it’s a must play to me.

I would have liked to play #4 and #1(the original on property)

We only played one round per day and had a Vrbo so maybe cost a little more than it could have, really don’t remember cost. I think less than $2g. Went end of October. We also drove and planned on Sweetens cove on way home but things didn’t work out.

Been two years in a row now for an annual trip with three other guys. Played most of the courses in the area. There are several clear tiers of courses in my opinion and the majority of the best golf is not actually on resort property.

Tier 1a:
Pinehurst #2

Tier 1b:
Pinehurst #4
Tobacco Road
Mid Pines
Pines Needles
Southern Pines (just opened after big renovation)

Tier 2:
Pinehurst #8
Pinehurst #3

Tier 3:
Everything else

Pinehurst 4 is better than 2.

Tobacco Road is a must for how unique it is. About 75% of your shots are blind.

The Cradle is really fun even with a large group.

9 is the Nicklaus course and the greens are bent which is totally different. Be ready to hit lots of cuts off the tee.

That's why I labeled them 1a and 1b. #2 is very similar to #4 and the other in the 1b tier from a course quality perspective, but the history and experience of playing it sets it apart in my opinion.

I've heard this before and heard people say they loved it but

Sounds miserable

The marshal on 1 goes to the top of the hill to let you know when the fairway is clear. After that, tee shots are on your own. Most greens have big bells there as you walk off that you can ring to let the group know behind you that it’s clear.

There is always more width than you think. Some fairways are 100 yards wide but appear tiny.

It’s just a cool place. If you don’t have fun there your no fun.

I'd rather play Tobacco Road than any of the Pinehurst courses, with the exception of 2 & 4. The Ross package is definitely worth it though. But if you go, you have to play Tobacco Road.

Everything recommended is solid. Spend more time at the cradle than you think. Such a fun way to start and end a day.

Get a caddie on #2. I have done it twice and would do it again.

Do not skip Tobacco Road because off property. It’ll be the most unique and fun experience you have.

Looking at doing Pinehurst with a group next summer. Checking their site, they only have booking through February. Can you book further in advance if you call?

Hope to do 2,4,8, and Tobacco Road.

Yes, guy said they're pretty open and I could have booked for spring. Not sure about summer but I'm sure if you had a date they'd work with you.
