The greens.

I like challenging greens. I hate when nice courses have pretty straight forward greens with no big changes or tricky breaks. The fairly flat straight forward greens don't punish you for having a bad approach shot and get very boring.

Mature Trees make a course for me. These tend to be older courses and are my favorite. What the facilities are like, club wise has little to do with my enjoyment of the course.

I like a old course with no houses or old nice houses, greens must be perfect.

Greens and Tee Boxes for me on the course.

It's a bonus when there's a nice clubhouse you can go into, relax, and watch golf or another sport to kind of wind down and cool off after a round. It's not a deal breaker though. Just enhances a good experience.

Value - Price vs course condition. If I go into a round knowing the course isn't the best, but I didn't pay much for it, I'll have a good experience because I just like playing.

I just like it to feel like a country club.

If the facilities are weak, I don't care how great the course is

Join a country club, then.

Good post, want to add on to this though:

Really drives me crazy when pins are put in awful spots on every, single, green. If it's a weekend, and no tournament or anything, make the pin locations a variety. I played over the weekend when 8/9 greens on the front nine were back right or back left tucked pins on a Sunday morning.

Probably an afterthought for most people, but have you ever played from seriously uneven tees? Links on the Bayou has two that drive me insane. Par 3s, and no way to get a level lie. PISSES ME RIGHT OFF!

Years and years of par 3 divots take a toll on a tee box. Stripping sod and regrading it to level is a big task, but I think it pays off for courses that do so.

Pretty sure these two were never flat. The other two par 3s don't have that issue.

True greens and a good tee box.

Nothing worse than a nice, plush course with shitty greens.
