How often do you check loft/lie on your irons?

Especially those who have forged irons.
Had mine done recently after a year and a half... needless to say, they were off by a lot.
How regularly should this happen? I play about twice a week. Every 3 months?

I never have checked mine. How do you do that?

Edwin watts can check and get them bent back to spec. There are also a few individuals who have the tools to do it as well.

I've been playing for 25+ years. Didn't know this was even a thing

Both my 4 and 5 iron were lofted at 24*
That would (partially) explain why I took my 4 out of my bag completely.

Been playing longer than that and I didn't either. I learned a thing.

It is very, very rare that any iron will have ANY change in degree of loft, ever.

quote:As a generalization, this just isn't true. The metal, how often you play, and the type of player you are can all impact lie and loft over time. Unless you are saying callaway sent me my clubs 1-3* off spec?

But my anecdotal situation aside, there's lots of info out there saying that they do change.

Never.
And if I feel one of the irons is off a little bit I'll just open or close the club face enough to make up the difference.
A poor craftsman blames his tools.

A good craftsman keeps them sharp and clean.

I would probably would do it if I noticed a significant change in ball flight, or if I start to lose yardage in a certain club, but I've been playing a long time and haven't really noticed a difference large enough to get it checked out.
I can see it being something you should do though. How often I don't know.

I would do if about every 6 months of you play more than 4-5 times a month.
You can check it very easily by assessing your divots and using Dr. Scholl's foot spray (the aerosol kind) on the club face. That will at least show impact position more than anything. Assessing divots will show if your swings are consistently shallow, steep, toe or heel heavy.
As always, the best thing to do is have someone certified to assess your lie/loft with a Trackman or the like (at the very least lie/loft tape).

What kind of callaways are you playing?
Posted on 7/14/17 at 5:51 pm to ell_13

Never checked mine and I've always played forged clubs

How would a club ever gain loft? I can see how a club could be delofted after a while, but I don't see how you could hit a club and cause it to increase in loft.
