I have 4 different Zelda games on my Raspberry Pi, trying to pick which one I should play first.

- The Legend of Zelda (NES)
- A Link to the Past (SNES)
- Ocarina of Time (N64)
- Majora's Mask (N64)

Never played any of them.

What order would you play them in (and why)? Or do they build on each other, so I should just play them in order? TIA

Middle two in any order. Maybe play the first one just to see where it started.

#4 reserve for that moment when you know you'll have a gun to your head.

Like Final Fantasy, each is completely different in story, land, and gameplay.

Play in whichever order you choose

And someone will inevitably show up talking about the "timeline", but pay it no mind.

No better way to go out, than playing the best of them all

Play them in the order listed.

Check them out in their release order.

1. The Legend of Zelda (NES): Play this one with a guide and map and move on to the next one if you stop having fun.
2. A Link to the Past (SNES): Have a guide nearby but only look at it if you are stuck.
3. Ocarina of Time (N64): Play this one straight up but be aware you may struggle with the Water Temple. You'll know when you're there.
4. Majora's Mask (N64): Play this one until you stop lying to yourself that you're having fun.

After #4 I would check out the other 2D Zelda games you can play on the Raspberry Pi, such as the Zelda titles on Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance. They are in order of release:

Links Awakening DX (GBC)
Oracle of Seasons (GBC)
Oracle of Ages (GBC)
The Minish Cap (GBA)

How do these run on the Pi? You overclocked? I Still haven't added N64 games on the pi.

I disagree. There are references to past games in the timeline. For example, Twilight Princess makes more sense if you've played OoT.

This.

You can find the maps online. Print them out and make a note of where the secrets are.

There's also a second quest. After you win you start over with the ground level looking the same but the secrets and underground levels in different places.

I played and beat both.

I got no references from it.

Not saying there weren't any, just that me and most everyone else never picked up on them.

And as such, my first post is confirmed.

The order is preference based ONLY. none will increase your understanding nor enjoyment of any other.

Depending on your tolerance for 2-bit graphics, I would generally agree with most of the thread and play them in release-order.

Or... If you want immediate gratification, I would go:

OOT -> LTTP -> LoZ -> MM

MM is actually a fantastic game, very different from the others in the series, but it will be pretty confusing unless you're a little more used to the series so I recommend playing it last of the 4.

Ocarina of Time because so many of the games can be connected to it.
