Ign actually did a good piece about this. Essentially it is possible to fix but it's not an easy fix and a lot of this wasn't set up to defend against it.

And why can't you just put the disk in and play. Why do you have to install the game on the Xbox one? If you have no internet, you're screwed.

You don't HAVE to have Internet for all games. My brother in law just got GTA. Live wasn't working but we threw it in and let it install then started playing.

Yeah I don't know man that's really shitty, like I said I haven't run into that problem but then again I haven't been playing a lot of games lately on my Xbox. Just googled it and it seems like that is a issue with the One on a lot of games, not all though.

Well all 4 games he got today required Internet to 'install' the game even though we had disk. Blows my mind.

Probably had updates to install is why. Games on PS aren't immune from this.

I've never had to update to play a single player game on any Playstation console, not that I know of anyways. Last week I was playing Dragon Age while it was updating.

I am still on Xbox but looks like Sony too their servers down completely. Maybe they are updating their firewall or something

PSN servers are completely off. No we cant even monitor them. WTF are they doing.

ETA: The internet says that Sony did take PSN offline after the attacks.

Lizard Squad stopped the attacks over 2 hours ago thanks to Kim Dotcom. He basically gave them $30K in vouchers to stop and that value could go up if they never attack again. Kim is a big time gamer.

What a moron. You do not make deals with terrorists.

Will he make that deal every time they decide to be assholes?

PSN and Xbox are down for maintenance. Not from attacks. They are recovering.

He said he will cancel it if they do it again and their Twitter says they are "going dark"

It's not like he gave them cash. He gave them something he can 100% control.

Can they use those to buy something?

Also, that just gives new douches motivation.

Still wish people would just ignore them. It's ridiculous how many people follow them on Twitter.

They could sell the vouchers maybe but I don't know how fast they could sell 3000 of them. They would also have to take Bitcoin for them to stay untraceable making it even harder to move them.
