I've kinda been bingeing on AGDQ archives since I've been recovering from a back injury.

Some of these speed runs are just unreal. The Ninja Gaiden runs in particular. I didn't beat the original Ninja Gaiden until I was like 28. And I had infinite continues, and it took me like a week to see these guys break this game in 15 minutes is insane. Then I saw the Pacifist run, beat Ninja Gaiden without a single power up or using a sword slash except on bosses, WHAT THE ACTUAL frick?

I could speed run Mario 1 and 3 pretty easily, took me forever to beat Mario 2.

Also, I could absolutely crush Super Punch Out, and Punch Out Wii. Super Punch Out was the first game I remember actively trying to speed run.

How bout you guys?

I honestly didn't care for it, probably because of my nostalgia for 2D ninja games.

Some games are so difficult that it takes all the fun out of the game, I felt like this was one of them. The Spider-Man game on Genesis was another one.

I watched Zelda (original) speed runs for like 2+ hours the other day. It was a twitch stream of 4 guys playing at once. They would complete the game in 28 minutes and change. Apparently anything < 30 min is insane.

It was entertaining while a run was happening, but there was alot of resets by the 50 second mark of they weren't in a specific room by that point. It got a bit boring at that point.

I was always intrigued by this but never got into it, other than beating Super Metroid in under 2 hours. I can see it with the Ninja Gaiden games. I remember picking a night one night and staying up until I beat the first one. By the end I could blow through the first 4 stages easily, so with enough work you could get that good on the rest. The amount of repetition that would take though...

Zelda OoT 100% speed runs are pretty insane. Mario N64 speed runs are cool too.

Check out siglemic on twitch. He has records for both and his stream is pretty entertaining.

I've started to do the randomizer speed runs. I can finally finish them in one sitting most times. Still got a ton of work to go before I feel like I can compete.

The only game I ever really got into completing quickly was Braid. That game has a speed run mode that disables saving and puts a big timer on the bottom of the screen. For a time I was in the top 100 on Xbox live and half the of the top times were obviously glitch runs because people had times of 0 seconds and even negative times.

Outside of that, I typically like to take my time with a game when I get to play. Even ones I've beaten a bunch of times like Super Metroid.
