It's getting cheaper. The 980 isn't that much in comparison of what you get and will rock 4K. That or 2 290s in crossfire.

I'm guessing so you can watch 4k video content.

talked to a guy who broke down the inside of the xbox one looked at it's parts, it's code, etc. he's the one that told me about the 4k capability and other cool shite that the xbone isn't utilizing right now.

his guess was it looked like they were planning for it to work with games that release for their next console.

so they both supposedly have the capability [to output 4K *images* and *video*], but the xbox one is the only one to officially say it has the capability [to output *games* at 4K]
We're talking about displaying images and video vs. rendering games, which requires much more horse power.

which makes the xbone having the potential built into it that exceeds what is currently required of it, like 4k graphics, even more curious.
If the Xbox One had some kind of secret capability built into it for 4K games, it makes 0 business sense to not have highlighted it at this point.

Just because a company claims a console can do something, doesn't mean it can, though it should. (And that goes for Microsoft as well as Sony, who's PS4 still doesn't have the game suspend mode it claimed it would have during it's initial announcement.)

yea this is the head scratcher.

my guess would be it has something to do with them already planning for their next console.

eta highlighting its potential would also be trying to predict the future. no guarantee the potential they've built into it comes to fruition

I didn't realize the xbone has that ability if ever needed till a couple weeks ago. eta also found out not long ago that apparently there's a lot of other cool shite the xbone is hiding under the hood that isn't being utilized right now.

Loll. Dude the xbone (and ps4) struggle to put shite out at 1080p. If your talking about 4k video, maybe in a couple of years after updates

I could see 4K gaming on PC being relevant, but 4K gaming on console, much like 4K television content is pointless.

You're not going to be sitting close enough to the TV to notice a difference. Now the relevancy of OLED TVs is another matter. I'd love to get an OLED TV preferably 1080p if they still make them with that resolution in 5 years.

The Xbox One Two of my friends bought an Xbox One recently. I wouldn't mind buying one for the exclusives which seem a lot better than the PS4 exclusives right now. Forza Horizon 2 and Sunset Overdrive look like great games. There's a bundle with Halo MC Collection for $350. It's very tempting but I can't help feel like I'm blowing money

If u have the spare cash and you think you'll be playing with your buds online a lot it will be worth it. If you really like halo, I'd say get it. If not, then sunset and forza are not enough to make me buy it when you already have a ps4 (they are both solid games though).

It's just hilarious that folks think that a console that can't even push 1080p at acceptable framerates is just going to, through some form of magic, be able to push 4 times that resolution.

Not going to happen...

People are a little too obsessed with graphics imho. I have 2 970s in my system which will run any game in 4k and I still rather play games on my xbox one.

I agree in part. The next gen consoles should have more horsepower, but given what they have to work with, 1080p 30 fps should be the baseline for performance. If the debs can't achieve that with their game, they need to sacrifice the visuals. 900p stretched to 1080p just looks bad on a larger TV.

I agree, FPS first, eye candy second. Fortunately, right now my 980 gives me both. I would much rather have over 100 FPS @ 1080p than 4k resolution @ 30 FPS.

A next gen console might run an exclusive at like 10 fps if it was outputting 4k. This obsession with ever increasing TV resolution is stupid.

I didn't realize it until I went from 720p to 1080p. The games I own that run 1080p native look like my 720p games used to look and games in 720p don't look too far off from how PS2 games look in 720p.

I miss the 720p TV I had where everything looked good regardless of resolution.

What's the point of rendering a lamp post with 3 million polygons if it looks like a jagged fuzzy mess due to upscaling the TV upscaling a signal less than its native resolution?

resolution is not the most important thing in making a good looking picture. Take Ryse for example. Ryse looked amazing because of all the other things even though it was 900p.

Ryse is more the exception than the rule. Most games won't go through that much effort to mimic 1080p.
