It makes sense from a marketing standpoint that BF would want to show off gameplay. They are trying to attract people away from COD, you aren't going to do that by showing a commercial without your gameplay.
Most people already know what COD is and will buy it based on the name alone.
ETA I think BF has much more to gain by showing gameplay in commercials than COD does.
My point is I don't think COD showing or not showing gameplay has anything to do with how they feel about the quality of it. More so how they feel they should market it.

If that was the case they would do a Pepsi Challenge type commercial, where people play both games and they don't tell them which is which. Then after they play and the people say "I like this one," they reveal that it's BF4 and the shitty game is CoD.

OP has zero marketing savvy if he thinks the devs actually market the game. Thats a activision decision. Haters dont need to make shite up to hate. The games been on a downward tren. Just feel vindicated play BF and STFU.

If the game looks good then why not show it in the commercials? You could still use the voice over if you want to take the comedic route. Just use the same script and VO the gameplay.

The plot to MW2, if done correctly, would make one hell of a badass movie. The entire Washington scene was intense, being on the third floor of the US Capital firing a .50 at the advancing Russian Troops, racing up to the top of the White House to stop the airstrikes. The last scene, pulling the knife out and gutting the turncoat General.
I'm getting pumped thinking about it.

We are arguing marketing strategies. I don't think either of us will agree with the other in the end of this.
Your BF4 vs COD Pepsi challenge thing isn't a bad idea tho.
I just think COD has less to gain by showing footage than BF4 does. By having celebrities and whacky commercials they are attracting the fan base/casual gamers that thy are after.
Hard core gamers are gonna be on YouTube watching both games regardless.

I'll probally be shite on for saying this, but BF can be like COD.
You have Domination and TDM, when matched with the M16/AEK it plays almost like a COD game only a little longer if they 200-500% tickets.
When I play solo I enjoy doing TDM, and I run a server that's dedicated to TDM.
However, those game types just aren't Battlefield at the core. BF is about Tanks and Helicopters duking it out to see who is truly the champ of the map. 3 guys in a tank + another squad of PTFO guys can dominate a CQ server easily. Add in my own precise aiming and I can knock even jets out of the sky with either an RPG or a tank round.
