They helped the DOJ by buying out FTP's debt but nobody has been payed yet. They set up a website for claims last year and that's as far as its gone. I have accepted that the money in my account is gone for good.
Pokerstars coming back in the US market is highly unlikely. They have a strangle hold on the world market and I don't think they gain enough to come back assuming they are allowed. When poker gets legalized, it will be regulated and taxed by the federal government. The rake structure will be totally different than what we currently have and winnings will likely be taxed off top straight from our accounts. IMO, Pokerstars would balk at those terms. Even if they were cooperative, the US would be segregated from the rest of the world. Online poker will look very different when it comes back. There have been talks of potentially leaving the decision of legalization to the individual states. This means noone would be able to play across state lines. Also, states can opt out and not allow it at all.
Not to mention the HUGE push back from brick and mortar casinos who want online poker for themselves. Rather than playing at Pokerstars, they want us playing on Harrah's.com or some shite. Other brick and mortar casinos just want online poker shut down.

It was Bill Frist. He slipped the UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) in with the SAFE act. Totally unrelated to the rest of the bill. The rest of Congress had no choice but to vote it in because it was attached to a "must pass" bill to safeguard ports from terrorists. This was in 2006 and it did not stop online poker in the US. It just made it more difficult for the payment processors. It was however the basis for the DOJ shutdown in 2011. The UIGEA forced the poker sites to use questionable methods of payments to players and and the DOJ collected evidence for 5 years before seizing all domains.

No. I think they did it because they were given an out and they took it. I do not think Pokerstars is coming back. I think the government will try to force them to adhere to polices that will force them out, allowing hand picked operators to fill that void in the market.

I just dont see a scenario where PS gives up a market the size of the US. Sure, they will have some differences but even if the US market was segregated from the rest of the world (not sold thats going to happen either) it would still be a market worth going after.
They already have the infrastructure AND the name recognition necessary to capture the market with minimal capital outlay.

I don't disagree with you about Pokerstars not wanting to lose the US market. I'm simply saying the government will force them out so they can insert whoever they want. The major brick and mortar casinos are in everyone who is important's ear and at the end of the day I think they win over a corporation based out the country. I hope you are right for what it's worth.

I was being facetious. People have been saying poker is dead since 06'. 
Yeah. I have a strong love/hate for the game. Since Black Friday I've been playing in 2 or 3 month spurts but I can't quit it completely. I get the itch every few months.
I think I'm going to totally transition to live play until the online landscape changes for the better. The sites US players have as options are damn near unbeatable when you take into account the tougher player pool, rake and bad beat jackpot drops. The sites can pretty much get away with murder because they know we have no where else to play.

Some of my worst bad beats and trap hand have come from jokerstars. Im talkin flop AAK when I have AK. 2 guys shove into me. Winds up $550+ before the turn. 2-2 catches runner runner for quads. 
If I play for cash again online I doubt ill deposit more than 1 or 2 hundy.

We already have legalized online poker in certain states, so someone here is a little behind on their information. Poker will look differently when it makes it way back, but it's too much of a cash cow waiting to be tapped into to stay illegal. I mean look at marijuana legislation.
