In the VAB, coming in at a whooping 17.9k with the bulk of that being the Nuclear Engine. I thought what I could save in fuel costs would offset the expense of the engine. Since I needed less fuel to take off, maneuver and land. Guess I was wrong.

And we're off. Solid rocket booster stage completed around 9k m. Now to escape the lower atmosphere.

That stage took me to 33k m. Now time for the final stage.

Orbit achieved, I think I was around 100k m. Now burning for the Mun.

Now descending. Uh oh, forgot the landing gears

Almost there, down to 4 m/s

Bazinga! I thought for a second it may stand upright.

Yes, in true Kerbal fashion my rocket really did roll down the hill after I got out.

I think you got this hands down, but there maybe a late contender.

Very nice.

This is going to be a lot of fun. Want to just bookmark this thread and each week update the OP instead of making a new thread every week?

Practice my friend. It took me forever it seems to land on the Mun but once you do, it becomes second nature

There's 3 keys to being good at Kerbal, practice, practice and Scoot Manley videos. It took me forever to just get into an actual orbit, but once you can get there, the rest is a cake walk.

I'm out of town until Monday, so challenge two will start then. I already have an idea, but if anyone has any let me know. I've learned a few things for the next challenge, like being more specific with the goals and requirements

Yes.

I don't have a finalized submission yet, and won't get a chance for pics for a few days, but for the sake of heads up in the competition we are looking at a 4650 range rocket.

I'm great at finding wiggle room in vague directions

But on the flip side, remember that additional rules stifles creativity. So keep them limited to the intent of the challenge (like for instance if you meant getting a Kerbal to the Mun, or if you meant the craft landing undamaged).

Lookin forward to the pictures.

That's what I meant by being more specific, I should've specified rocket/Kerbal and things like that.

For this mission I noticed the thing that was the hardest to deal with was the engines, because they are the most expensive. So, I stuck to as few and as cheap of ones I could get. And then I made sure I didn't waste any fuel on getting to the Mun.

If I was a better navigator, I wouldn't need my next stage (before the lander).

And like I said, if the rules stated I HAD to put a Kerbal on the Mun, I would use the seat and mount it on the tippy top of the science sphere.

You did good, I didn't even think about that I just said "rocket". I'll redeem myself on the next one. I'm contemplating a Minmus challenge.

Minmus is an easier landing than a Mun mission...but that's about it. Haha

I don't check out the gaming board much so I missed this. I'll try to catch the next one if it's over the weekend. Im assuming these are to be done in Sandbox, right?

I recorded a video of it if yall would like to see the transit.....don't laugh too much at my frick ups though.

I'll upload it later, but for now here is the value of the ship in the VAB, and the landed control pod on the Mun.

Proof

New Number: 4675

I'm not much of a storyteller, which is why I recorded it....but I will say one hilarious bit is that my first attempt failed because Kerbin eclipsed the sun right after I made by deorbit burn around the Mun....thus killing my pod's control power on the decent and resulting in it hitting the surface at full speed.
