It's a big game. It can take 50 to 100 hours to complete so yeah, it can be a tad overwhelming at time.

The first area has a zillion quests. The number 1 tip given on here is that you don't have to do everything in the Hinterlands before moving on.

Except to make sure you get the treasure cache of excellent starter gear in the North East portion of the map. Just through a small cave.

So i now have a few hours on my nightmare/Elf Mage run and it is tough to get started. First thing I did was go ahead and buy the respect amulet and get rid of the two skills they start you with and have gone full spirit to start and have started rolling a little bit of fire into it.

So far, my group is Sera/Cass/Viv and me and it seems effective so far. Nightmare is a different game. There is a lot more going back to the camps to get more potions but I don't think that will be the case once I can add in enough fire magic to deal some damage.

Easy places on normal and hard and really tough on nightmare.

The beacons in the Fallow Mire were almost impossible for me. I had to switch up my party to deal more damage.

I roll with my elf mage, Viv, Bull and Cassandra.

Crafting become FAR more important. You need the resistances and damage upgrades faster than you can get them from drops.

Definitely harder getting started. The Haven siege was almost impossible until I upgraded my equipment and added Bull to the mix.

On normal you can get away with it. I actually crafted armor for Cass right before going into the last two missions and the armor went from 128 to 280. I never looked at her armor and never worried about it. That was crafted after I killed all the dragons too.

On normal it isn't even remotely necessary.

It does require a LOT of extra work to keep upgrading.

The stone isn't hard to collect but the leather and cloth is a real pain in the arse because there aren't enough monster spawns to get tons of items in a small amount of time.

Nightmare, crafting is needed or at least it has been for me.

The whole schematics hunt makes crafting probably too much of a pain for most people.

my archer rogue hit like a truck and a big one. I typically opened with a 3k+ hit on a few targets then an explosion shot would hit for another 2k to 3k worth of damage. Most stuff was dead before we even needed a tank.

I want to make an archer rouge after my first play through with my rift mage but honestly don't know if I'll have time. I've spent like 140 hours on this one. I don't think I could invest that much time again. How much main story is left after the Winter Palace?

Damn. I haven't even found all the schematics I wanted and I've only done 2 companion quests. I guess I will be doing another play through after all.

You aren't locked into the final path yet. You can still go anywhere and do any quests you like. And search for the schematics you are missing. Though most of the best ones you can buy.

Yeah I just meant it might not be worth it at this point to continue looking for items if I only get to use them for a couple missions. I still have a few more dragons left and my companion missions so I can probably get a good amount of use if I find them soon. Have any idea where I can find a seer staff schematic? No merchants have them I've farmed the shite out of the Cradle of Sulevin. I've found several under leveled seer staves but no schematic.
