I have enjoyed a handful of mmorpg's through the past 10 years or so, but I feel like most of the newer games are just great graphics and shite for gameplay content just to make a quick buck, hence all of the free subs..

I started off playing Dark Age of Camelot back in '03 and it was my absolute favorite game of all time. Lack of attention from designers and old age have just about driven this game to its grave. Best PvP/RvR system idea ever!

I played a lick of WoW when it first came out. Haven't played it since. Too much focus on PvE takes out the competitive aspect/thrill that I like to seek out in games.

Rift was suppose to be a big deal when released, and I enjoyed until a certain point where the gameplay became very repetitive. The PvP was based through timed battlegrounds. And that just isn't very fun to me. The PvE and questing was pretty good for the most part.

Finally, I have played the beta for, and even purchased the game Guild Wars 2. The graphics for these games get better and better, however the skillsets/classes/roles to choose from are moving in the wrong direction for my tastes.. Guild Wars actually intentionally tried to take out key roles from individual classes and made each class self-sufficient and independent. Many gamers now a days like this, just not me :( I like to have certain classes have specific roles in the success of a GROUP of characters.

I guess what I am saying is that I am looking for a DAoC 2.0 type of game with refined graphics, new/updated content, and a healthy population to communicate and socialize with.

The only new/upcoming game I see that looks anything close would be Darkfall: Unholy Wars.
Any suggestions of some great games that are either out or in the works that I could look into?

Stay away at all costs. Even if you have to cut off all your fingers to do it.

If you are up for a paid sub MMO, Final Fantasy 14 will be coming out at the end of August, with beta sign up going on now. You can solo if you want, but a lot of emphasis is put on party play, having a specific role.

Yeah, I actually stumbled across Camelot Unchained a few minutes ago. Sounds great concept wise - RvR/PvP based game from the same guy who founded Mythic.

It will be a while before I get a taste of this pie though...

Do not do this.

Me and Sic are big FF sunshine pumpers if you check the FF post out. But It does not seem like it would interest you. You want something more PVP. Honestly I don't know what to suggest.

I'm crossing my fingers that:

A. EQNext will really happen and
B. That it will be what I keep hoping for out of an MMO

I'm not sure of either of those happening though. Your best bet would be to go find a DAOC emulator

I can't enjoy MMO's for more than about a month or two now...I think my issue is that I'm one of the few people that actually enjoys "the grind" I want it to be difficult to level, and I want leveling to be group based (as you do). I get bored playing games all the time by myself, but honestly I hate the attitude that most people seem to have when it comes to grouping these days...which is more min/maxing based on gear than it is having to be good at a class.

/end rant

to answer your original question...it doesn't exist and good luck

I do hate how you can max lvl on most games now solo. SWTOR, I felt like it was faster solo. SO why bother with a group

Hmmm. Closest might be the "in development" Elder Scrolls Online. Three faction Pvp.

Will be awhile before it is available though.

EQNext i hope is better then EQ2.. They failed if you ask me on EQ2.. Nothing will never live up to EverQuest old school times.. WoW has ruin most of all the good MMORPG.

I despise WOW for ruining mmo's. As soon as that released mmo's all became generic.

This! It seems like they are puting all of the focus on the glitz and glam and not into the gameplay content which makes games great (at least PvP wise). As I originally stated, Rift was the only recent game that had an ideal PvE system IMO, even though the rifts themselves became redundant. I loved the quest storylines and the 5 or 6 man instances were great. No game even comes close to DAoC PvP wise, and the original EQ is legendary status!

Warhammer Online had such awesome potential until EA got a hold of it and made them try to turn it in to WOW.

You can't blame WoW for ruining MMOs.

Game dev studios have had almost a decade to bring a game to the table that was different or better than WoW and they failed to do it. They copy WoW and think it entitles them to charging 15 bucks a month just because they think it's an mmo.

The game industry destroyed the mmo genre, not WoW

Neverwinter is something new. It's free to play. Just don't get to 60. Play a couple different classes and level up slowly. Its enjoyable until you get to endgame 60 and its free.

If your a Star Wars fan, SWTOR is a decent play. Its good for about a month then gets boring.

LOTRO is free to play for a while and decent if you like the Hobbit stuff.

If you really love PVP. You can give Planetside a try. Its only PVP, no story. Free to play but the better weapons and equipment costs.
