they cycle has been moving away from MMO's for a while it seems. Maybe once they go back out of style someone will come back around to make one that's worth a shite and original. I had all my eggs in the EQ Next basket, but someone decided to shite rocks all over that basket of eggs and destroy them.

Out of playing SWTOR, GW, WoW, GW2, RuneScape, and finally, SWG, SWG is tGOAT to me.

I don't know of another MMO that ever created a successful MMO sandbox pretty much. At its core, that's what SWG is. A Star Wars game where you can do basically whatever you want.

Mind you, this is Pre-NGE that I'm talking about.
I've been playing it for over a year now via emulator. Sometimes time isn't the most permitting when it comes to playing it, but holy shite is that game fantastic.

It has its flaws, as does every game, but the community and how the game "forces" a community into existence is amazing.

Agreed. I swear I met you in the beta for that game. Dude was called Doldil and was from Louisiana but swore he'd never heard of TigerDroppings when I asked him.

I've never seen anyone else use that name. I've been using it as a backup (because it's always available) since creating for my monk in EQ in like 1999/2000 Also, I'm from Alabama, so if you actually met someone that had my name + was from Louisiana then that's pretty nuts.

No but something about they removed all the account info they received from Nostalrius because the Nostalrius crew no longer wanted to be associated with piracy

Elysium project has additional servers. Nostalrus was a server. They got bullied by blizzard and shut down.

Elysium allowed folks to transfer the characters from Nostalrus.

It's going strong.

DC Universe Online is pretty fun until you reach the absolute limit of what you can do as a F2P player (Level 30, Combat Rating 53)

I agree, it was the best for me. I ran a neutral trading company that became a monopoly on the Tarquinas server. We supplied Rebels and Imperials with weapons and supplies needed for their war. Our city was the only neutral zone.

On one occasion the Imperials tried to force our loyalty, but we ended their blockade by threatening to join the Rebellion (which would have tipped the scale in their favor).

I'm aware. Elysium has its own team running things now. It's going strong.

SWG pre NGE was the greatest of all time no question. I blame wow with it's demise.

It was the only pure sandbox game, that had such massive ambitions that it took years to even realize all the minor details they put into the game.

The PvP could never be balanced due to the fact is that they didn't lock characters into a single role. And you could change anytime. People always are evolving trying to find the right mix of skills to stay ahead. It just wasn't done senseless grind to become the best warrior or healer, you had to mix and match classes to find your character.

Plus all the gear was user created and had to be repaired. Master crafters had roles and could play the game without even killing anything.

I could go on and on. I played on Chilastra.

SWG pre-NGE really wasn't all that great -- at least initially. Practically the only content was running to a terminal then running for days to a monster den, blowing it up, then coming back.

Age of Conan - The best starting area in any MMO, but gets muddied after that.

My thoughts exactly. Such an awesome experience in those first 20 levels.
quote:

Warhammer - It was OK but didn't keep me past the initial month.

Liked the PVP focus, but wasn't able to play enough to get much out of it.
quote:

Guild Wars Guild Wars 2

Was LTTP for GW1. GW2 is alright. Had a lot to do in it, but I really hated the combat. Once you learned all of the skills for your weapons, that was it. There was nothing else to really do.

Dark Ages of Camelot

Tried to get into this in like 2002, but my PC was too garbage to run it at anything better than 5 fps.

Others I've played:
FFXI - RDM on Shiva, tons of great memories. First MMO I loved.
WOW - Played a friend's house various times. Never really got into it. Had a friend give me a copy as a gift and I played through Burning Crusade. Still didn't like it.
Tera - Probably the best combat of any MMO I've played. Had a lot of fun with it. Is too grindy tho
FFXIV - A lot of fun and I still play it.
Blade & Soul - Great combat and a mildly interesting story. Bogged down by terribly expensive cash shop and some weird design choices.
Black Desert Online - Tons to do, very pretty, but lacking any real soul. You feel pretty lost in this game but it's because there's no real direction in it.

NCSoft canceled City of Heroes to finish development on this PoS.
