Storyline, sort of. I only played twin snakes so I know very little of the story so far but they have literally HOURS of cassette tapes you gather along the way that tell you what has happened prior to the game. There are still lots of things I don't know but I know for a fact there are good synopsis of the storyline before this game out there that fill in everything in detail.

Continuity wise, the order is 3, 5, 1, 2, 4.
However, if you play them in order of release, the story makes more sense.

Not really. I've played all of them and still find it hard to keep all the story elements in my head. I actually bought the guide for this game which has a through synopsis but you can wiki all the info if you want. I would play Ground Zeroes if you get a chance just as a game play primer to see if you like it. The Phantom Pain a fantastic game and the best of the series imo.

I don't know, dude. I couldn't see playing this without knowing the bigger picture of the story. If anything, I could see this drawing in someone to want to play the other games to fill in the details. Of course, I said the same thing about MGS4 and that dres in a lot of new fans (even though I personally didn't like 4).

If anyone gets into the series, play it in order of release. It makes far more sense. You can pick up The Legacy Collection which has MGS1, 2, 3, Peace Walker, and 4. The only one missing is Portable Ops, but Kojima has said that game is partially canon. You can skip it without really missing much and can easily read a quick synopsis online.
KefkaProduction on Youtube has put together all the games into movies for those who don't want/have time to play them. They are very well done. I highly recommend it. I watch them from time to time when I need a refresher on some minute detail I might have overlooked or forgotten.

In my opinion no not at all, except maybe Ground Zeros just because of the back story as to why you start off escaping a hospital in MGS5. I personally only finished MGS4. I watched a buddy beat Metal Gear Solid when I was 12 when it came out.
Tried playing snake eater but hated the controls and quit.

I just fought the sniper chick. I haven't done that many main missions, I just keep roaming around and doing side missions. This is awesome

Oh, you're asking about the zoo...on the screen when you're picking your landing zone for a return to motherbase, press triangle (PS4) to switch the map to your zoo. There's an on-screen prompt, but it is easily missed.
