And therein lies the issue with this game. Amazing gameplay, but repetitive and unfinished. It's a good game, but a bad MGS game. The story--as cheesy and over the top it gets sometimes--makes this series. It's like having a GTA without the crimes, Zelda without Link, and Jack without Coke.

I'm replaying through it now and it's a grind. I didn't think of this the first time, but it feels like a giant mobile app game with the farming and needless arbitrary time-wait for development. Why does it take 1.2 hours for my next sniper rifle to develop? Frick you, that's why. Not sure if Konami or Kojima is to blame, but it sucks. Oh well, plenty of other MGS games to play. Anytime I play this in the future, it'll be the story missions and that's it.

There is no cut scene theater here, either. That's been a staple of MGS for a while now. No dogtags, no kerotans, no Big Boss/Foxhound ranks. It just doesn't feel like Metal Gear. I know I'm bitching. Game is good, not great. Hopefully Fallout 4 will be better.

The gamplay is amazing...story is an incomplete mess...and what's crazy is how much better it could have been had Konami/Kojima not had a falling out. It's a shame...though I've probably put in 70+ hours into the game and still play it every day.

Yeah, I'm still grinding to S rank all missions. Can't say I didn't get my money's worth! Thank God for the PC version where I can mod it, too.

Carson, prepare your anus (mind). That mission should be played while you are sitting indian-style surrounded by fluffy pillows.

It satisfies about as much as the rest of this games plot did.

Solid gameplay, worst story EVAR.

For kojima, that's saying something.

Agree with everything on the last 2 pages.
Game was awesome for first 20 or so missions.

Now it's evolved into go rescue this guy - just joking he's being transported 2000m away, enjoy the long walk.
Spend an hour clearing soldiers outside the mansion - oh wait, just joking zombies and zombie snipers everywhere.
Rescue this guy. Wait he's not the right one.
We got it, rescue him now. Hmm? Still not the right guy.
Ok one more time.
Kidding. Once more again. Promise - last time.

It's easier now for me to run in and set off all kinds of alerts, do what i need to do, then run out. I know if I waste time extracting the guards with perfect stealth that something stupid is going to happen and make it worthless.

ETA: Almost forgot: Exfiltrate the hot zone. TIME OUT. A burning guy and flying psycho ghost are now chasing you. Hope you brought the water gun.

LOL

Only mission that chapped my taint was the one about getting the kids out of the mine. I cleared the whole area of bad guys and even destroyed that gunship. Then, I waltzed in to get the kids. Out of the mine we go. I call for the chopper to land at the LZ right in the middle of the big mine so they don't have far to walk and the kids ignore it and run blindly to some LZ 400m away. I tried tranqing them and bringing them back to the other LZ, but by the time I moved one and went to get another, the first would awaken and run off again.

Bastards.

This was shitty. The Side Ops could have been so much more creative. Right away you could see the potential in infiltrating missions in an open world. I kept waiting for that to evolve with more difficult tasks and it just never does.

After about 70-80 side ops they just feel like a chore. About 4 different objectives repeated over and over and over again. This is by FAR the easiest Metal Gear game in the series. You almost have to try to die in this game. Not really a fan of health regeneration. Would have been cool if it was turned off for main missions.

Yeah, the AI on those little fricks is trash. I rescued them, took out all of the guards except the final two at that little outpost before the LZ. I instructed them to wait while I took them out, and they proceed to run directly into the enemies line of sight.

And frick the enemies with shotguns that hit you like a rifle from 20-30 goddamn meters away.

Quiet takes a while to master. Once I build her bond up, I use the map and have her scout ahead using "scout" for the main outposts and important locales. I use "attack" for other available areas. It's very misleading, because she doesn't attack unless you give her the "cover me" command. There are some missions, like OKB Zero, that she can't get to by scouting, but there are plenty of sniping points for "attack". Confusing as frick.

But I almost always just unleash her with the cover me command while I flank the enemy. The enemy focuses on her and I swing around and either snipe them with crossfire or CQC them.

BTW, I just redid the mine mission just to finish some optional objectives. Got 3 alerts, killed 12 people, took me an hour, and got an S rank.

I'll never have the patience to get S rank on all the missions.

I finally finished it. No alerts but a shite ton of people killed. 27 head shots and the 5 kids brings a lot of GMP.
