All I can say is that I found it very entertaining and the videos were extremely well done. That did it.

Majora's Mask was just a creepy arse game. I'd also say that Majora is probably the most under rated villain in video games. He manages to frick up literally everyone's lives in some specific fricked up way and manages to destroy the world multiple times. Ganondorf doesn't have shite on Majora. As far as evil mother frickers go, its hard to one up him. Tell me that when this song started playing that it didn't make you feel extremely uneasy:

No game has managed to creep me out more than Majora's Mask (excluding Dead Space). The game has such a depressing theme, especially the Anju side quest.

Ganondorf just wants to rule the world.

Majora is an example of "Some people just want to see the world burn."

I never played Majora's Mask, but I think I'm gonna have to pick up a copy now. I loved OOT.

If I would have read this in junior high, I would have been some kinda freaked out.

I got stuck in the Stone Tower Temple and never actually beat this game. I'm tremendously impatient, so I tend to hold grudges against games - that is, they frustrate me so much that I refuse to play them ever again.

Now that it's been about 10 years, I should go back and finish what I started.

I find a breakdown on this site of why Majora is just one plain fricked up individual and definitely one of the most evil video game villains out there. Makes for a pretty interesting 2 minute read. After reading it, I definitely agree with a lot of what he is saying.

quote:

Majora isn't after power or world domination. He isn't motivated by revenge, conquest, bloodlust or greed. His goal is murder-suicide. He's going to kill every single creature in the world, himself included.

quote:

If Ganondorf is the evil-dictator of the Zelda series, then Majora is its Satan

But to completely defeat Majora, he had to become the Fiece Deity.

I only played through the game once when it was new (I think it may be time to start it up again...), but does that final battle go differently if you try to play it without the Fierce Diety mask?

Not really, it just makes it A LOT easier from what I remember. The mask lets you shoot energy at him every time you swing the sword.

That is the only comment that really doesn't totally fit, but if you want to really beat the whole game (100% completion) you have to beat Majora with the Fierce Deity mask. Only way to get that mask is getting all the other masks.

Ganondorf = Lawful Evil
Majora = Chaotic Evil

It's amusingly ironic to me that one of the so-called "best Nintendo villains" was hoisted to this pedestal not because of a rich and involving story full of details about his psyche and motivations. Rather, it's a simple "evil for evil's sake" story that is typically frowned upon in literature and film. It works within the logic of the Zelda universe (which doesn't contain much logic anyway), but it wouldn't be taken seriously anywhere else.

Yeah, I remember it made it a lot easier...only reason why I went through all that trouble. Was confused and wondered if the ending was left a little ambiguous or something if you didn't get the mask.

Too many RPGs...

Eh, to be fair, its not like they had a large library to build on the character.

And those kinds of characters are better when left ambiguous anyway. Yeah, you could argue it is fairly lazy writing, but it does work well when applied correctly.

Take TDK's Joker....he is of a similar mold.

I didn't mean to imply that it's poor characterization. Like I said, for Zelda, it works. I would be disingenuous to suggest that going "deeper" with the franchise would be to its benefit.

I was just pointing out what I consider to be an interesting discrepancy between video games and other story-telling mediums.

Definitely agree with this. He has no endgame. He doesn't seek land or power. He just wants chaos and death.

Majora is also terrifying because you never truly see him, only his manifestations.

Prepare yourselves, because I am reaching new heights of nerdom here.

I got bored last night and decided to find the backstory for Majora. There isn't much, but apparently he was some hairy, dragon-like demon that would eat every warrior that faced him. The whole Fierce Deity character was the original one who killed him, but he did that by playing either bongos or the ocarina for 3 days making Majora dance until he died.

Then Majora was made into a mask. The reason the mask is constantly moving like he is dancing is because he died dancing, or something like that.

The Fierce Deity is also supposed to be the spirit of Link that is constantly reincarnated to battle evil.

There you go. Now I'm going to slowly back away from my computer and go do something manly.

I did some hardcore illegal shite last night like a boss and started a new game on my N64 emulator.

I actually own the game, so it's not explicitly illegal, but I don't have to admit that to the chicks who think I'm "dangerously" appealing.

I actually got quite a bit done within the first hour of playtime... I remember roaming around Clock Town like a dumbass 10 years ago not sure of what to do, but my now superior brainpower is making this easy.

I thought I read somewhere that it was all in Link's head because he got lost in the enchanted forest looking for skull kids and it was his transformation into one or some shite.

It'll be interesting to see how I can handle the WTF-twists of the Stone tower now.
