This is fine, I easily got my money out of it, it was a fantastic game, and at 40 hours that extremely cheap entertainment (just a little more than $1 an hour!) The story was hands down the best story in any game I have ever played - but the combat
The melee characters were awesome, but 2B kinda dragged. So for me a game that held me for over 140 hours (BoTW) gets a slight nod over Nier... but it's sooo hard, because Nier's story absolutely obliterates BoTW's story - and I play video games for the story, not to mention the gameplay of Nier is just so original and fresh and I really really respect that.
But Nier falls just short of BoTW for GOTY for me - because by the end of the 35 hour campaign in Nier - I didn't want to do any more fetch quest, or see any more sub-plot missions - I wanted to finish the game and get the Plat.... whereas BoTW, I continued to collect and finish everything like a completionist - even after 100 hours and WITHOUT a trophy system on the Switch.

No idea how anybody can say this is a down year for games.
I mean all of these games came out this year.
Breath of the Wild
Divinity Original Sin II
Persona 5
Horizon Zero Dawn
Injustice 2
Nier Automata
Nioh
Destiny 2
Resident Evil 7
Splatoon 2
Yakuza 0
Prey
Tekken 7
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds
To me my favorite games of 2017 are.
1. Horizon Zero Dawn
2. Destiny 2
3. Nioh
4. Everybody's Golf
5. Persona 5
But these are the only ones I have played. Not going to rank games I have not touched like everyone likes to do here.

You forgot samus returns. Other than RE7 I haven't touched anything not on switch or 3ds
But I've heard so much chatter I assume they're awesome games

Yep. The Switch carried my gaming until about April.
If not for the Switch in early 2017, the beginning of 2017 would have sucked.

Yakuza O, Horizon, Nier, PUBG and Niho are all early 2017 titles. All are excellent.

Objectively, BOTW takes the game of the year title and it won't be close.

That's 21 perfect scores dude. Nobody is gonna give a shite for an arena battle game over a game that makes Ocarina of Time look like Mighty #9.
I've played PUBG and LOVE IT. I really do cause me and brother play it with Rocket League on the weekends when we are occasionally off. But really dude?
