There is no chance a $400 machine can play games in 4k. I don't even have to see the specs to know that. There is a reason Microsoft started tweeting about Scorpio after the conference. They know it bitch slaps the pro in power even without details.
No doubt Scorpio will destroy it in power. But we don't know a date or price point for it either. It is still a long ways out.

I think I'll just keep my XB1S for my 4K player then as I can't find if Pro even has one or not.
Upscaling in 4K still looks great though, as an owner of both, I played BF1 on PS4 and then XB1S version upscaling at 4K and HDR and it was night and day. Textures still sucked dick and looked awful compared to the 4K PC version of course, but even upscaling is still nice on a high end TV.
ETA definitely doesn't have a 4K BR Player, keeping my Xbone S.

I don't care anything about 4K right now, but I do want 1080p bare minimum resolution for all my games. If that's what I get out of this, I'm satisfied. Shocked that it doesn't play 4K Blu Ray though. That seems like a huge missed opportunity. Did they forget why the PS2 killed the Dreamcast?

This is the boat I am in too. I am not 4k ready yet. Maybe when scorpio comes out I will be.

I have trouble believing developers will take the time to get much out of this.
I agree we don't know much about Scorpio. I think it will be expensive but at least have an identity.

Isn't Microsoft in the same boat? All games available on the Scorpio must also work on the original Xbox One.

No thanks. If you're going to throw your money away for 4K then get the Scorpio; you're paying $400 for upscaled games with this. Total sham.
In conclusion
Xbox >>>> Playstation

I would of bought one if it did, but not anymore.

Yes they want games that run on both but you can still have different settings for each machine.

A lot of ppl in this thread do not understand system limited settings.

Think they nailed the price as well lots will jump in at $399.
Posted on 9/7/16 at 7:24 pm to GalvoAg
Yep they found a way to charge people $400 for a machine that barely does anything different.

As I expected when Neo was first leaked, it's a PS4 powered to support PS VR. Nothing more, nothing less. If you were planning to get a PS VR, then trading your OG for a Pro makes sense. If not, keep what you got.

I think it sucks but this is dumb.
It's 4.2TFlops of power versus 1.82. It will use that power worst case in every big exclusive game. It will be a pretty decent difference.
Posted on 9/7/16 at 7:35 pm to UltimateHog
I guess you could say I'm skeptical how much difference JT will make and how many developers will actually do it.
Posted on 9/7/16 at 7:40 pm to Mr Gardoki
That's why I said worst case only the big time exclusives will use the extra power, although I think others will too because of deals with Sony.
Uncharted 4 will get an upgraded update (hopefully free)
God of War will use that extra power
Horizon already is using it as they showed today
So if you're wanting to get a PS4 it's a good deal at $399.
They ended up not going after 4K at all, instead just upgraded power/made a PS VR ready machine.
I don't like it, but it makes sense. I do have some interest in PS VR, just like I do the HTC Vive, so we'll see.

I think some of us just assumed this was a Pro vs Scorpio thing and it's really not. It's a PS VR thing.
The PS4 is getting ready to turn 3 years old. I think it's possible as early as next E3 for Sony to start dropping noise about the PS5 or whatever it'll be called...released in late 2018 at the 5-year mark of this current console cycle. They have the potential to put Microsoft in a tough position re: Scorpio, but they seem (at least for now) to be dicking it up. The announcement today and the way they've handle the marketing just feels all wrong. Felt like I was watching an old Sega show.

I bet ps5 is 2019, another 3 years. That's my guess.
Posted on 9/7/16 at 8:01 pm to Mr Gardoki
That's what I think, too, but that should be the latest release window. That 7/8-year cycle with the PS3/Xbox 360 was a freak anomaly.
Reason why a Fall 2018 release might work is Microsoft has already announced the Scorpio as a late 2017 release. Assuming no delays on that release date, if a PS5 released a year later with all the neat little bells and whistles the next-gen usually brings with it, where does that leave the XBox in the development cycle?
Edit: That's assuming Sony does 4K whatever and 96 teraflops of that thing and a mechanical arm pops out and jerks you off...all that technogeek gamers want.
Edit2: Colin's discussion about power vs core games on the Kinda Funny Games video is fantastic if no one's seen it BTW.
