There was always talk early on with the game for a multi-decade progression of your character. While it would span over multiple games, they would build on each other. If you have an armor set you really like from the first game, with their original intent, why in the world shouldn't you be able to bring it over? If they want to reset power levels, fine, but no reason I shouldn't be able to bring over gear that I've spent so much time and effort to try and perfect over.

Understand that.. but with the obvious raise of lvl caps or new systems in any MMO, your previous weapons become useless.

So honestly, what is the point?

Destiny was popular because bungle made it and lied about what the game was gonna be

Destiny was popular because a lot of people who have never played an MMORPG before basically played an MMORPG.

Pretty much.

As somebody who put in an unreal amount of hours into Destiny. I don't ever remember them stating this as the plan.

Except, you can level your weapons up in Destiny to match your light level. (obviously they fricked over year 1 players with this). So, they already have the system in place to bring a weapon or armor through if you really like it, and use it for whatever level you are.

Oh didn't know. Only played the first expansion.

Was that in there?

Edt: Destiny has its moments. It hooked me. Destiny and tLoU:RM are the only 2 titles i've really got use out of my PS4.

They've backpedaled on it mightily, but look up the Destiny 10 year plan. It was part of their original hyping of the game, as an almost WOW type progression but for consoles. They've since waffled and said no, we never really had that plan, but they did.

My position has no bearing on me thinking it will be a bad game. I just have no desire to start completely over from scratch in a game and story I've put a ton of time into perfecting my character, all for it to be abandoned and reset again, which already happened year 1 to year 2. Not interested in doing that a 2nd or 3rd time.

No, it was part of the later expansions. The year 2 expansion made pretty much all your year 1 stuff completely worthless. They are bringing a bunch of the year 1 stuff back into D1 before they release D2. But they have a perfect system where if you like a gun for whatever reason, you can make sure it is competent enough to work with whatever light level you reach.

Actual populated towns in the mission areas, and I want to say they are going away from loading into missions.

They are planning on making it much more playable for the casual gamer who isn't in college and can't grind for 8 hours a day. They haven't released a ton of specifics on how they will do that though.

Destiny is MMO lite at best. It fell short of it in so many areas, might as well start over.

That's fine and all, but why even let me carry over my character? Just a gut punch honestly

A big part of MMOs is the social environment. Destiny did not really have this. No true sense of team, group when raiding. The raids are basically Co-Op missions.

It is a great FPS, however.

to just wipe it clean and make it all worthless without giving you an option to bring it with you if you want is just an insult.

Well it would be pretty stupid to let people bring over characters capable of blowing right through high level content on day one.

You can let people bring gear over and still reset the light level. They already implemented the leveling system so you can bring a weapon along with you if you like it. They set it all up, then just abandoned it.

But all it had was the grind. Lore was hidden on an app on cards. Community was half-filled hubs with a Max of 12 people and barren corridor maps with maybe one other person. Dungeons and raids had to lfg using a 3rd party site.

Occasionally ok to good gunplay was pretty much it's claim to fame besides the bungee pedigree. It didn't help that they more or less put these two guys in charge.
