Polygon: Trailer explains why loot won't be brought over from first game

quote:

The trailer introduces Destiny 2’s villain, a character named Ghaul who leads an army called the Red Legion. They attacked the Tower and, despite the best efforts from the Guardians, destroyed it. The trailer is even nice enough to show you all your great gear being lost to the ages.

quote:

“So. Everything is gone. Your stuff. My stuff. Most importantly, my stuff,” Cayde-6 helpfully explains.

So your character from the first game survived the events that lead up to the second game, but they also conveniently took all their gear off and dropped every gun while doing so, and also everything in storage is gone. Yay!

“It allows us to introduce the major advancements and improvements that all of us expect from a sequel, ensuring it will be the best game we can create, unencumbered by the past,” Bungie has said. “We’re looking forward to sharing more details with you later this year for how we will honor your legacy in the future.”

So it’s fun that the company basically called out the loss of your stuff in the trailer with a joke, but longtime fans of the first game are still likely to be a bit annoyed at losing their equipment. But at least now Bungie can start everyone off on level footing in terms of weapons and armor. Maybe that sense of anguish will just add to the game’s sense of desperation as you struggle against overwhelming enemies?

Mccraig, we know you're all L337 and shite, but get over it.

meh. was pretty corny

love cade's character, but he came off as a try hard and forced humor. his style is best in small doses as a break from the other serious characters.

I get it and am completely ok with it, glad I didn't ever grind too hard on destiny. but kinda, but not really, feel bad for the people who have grinded on destiny 1 for many many many hours just to see that work go up in smoke in the destiny 2

lol @ them

but seriously bungie should at least give some kind of consolation prize to those players in destiny 2. like bonus gear that speeds up leveling or something

The worst part is they already have a system where they could reset the levels of any gear brought over and then you can level it up as you go. If you have a pulse rifle or scout or whatever you really like to use, they already could bring it over, make it level 1, and then you can level it up as your power increases.

I don't really care about the loss of equipment specifically honestly. We've already gone through that, what, twice now basically since 1 released?

What always aggravated me more was that everything previous to a released expansion became useless. Why couldn't they have just leveled up the previous raids to keep you being able to play them? Why did your light level constantly have to get upgraded every 6 months?

I played the hell out of that game but I just couldn't keep up with the constant re-upping you had to do. I barely got into the Siva stuff because I just didn't have the energy to do it all over, again. Hopefully Bungie learned from that and will keep 2 more contact and steady through its expansions.

And also, make some damn content for the Cabal.

Me either. They already tore my Vision of Confluence away from me when they stupidly got rid of elemental primaries. With that said, I really hope that they bring back elemental primaries.

I've probably put more hours into destiny than anyone on this board and I don't give a shite about gear not transferring.

The grind is what made destiny fun. Once they made it to where everyone essentially got everything, the novelty wore off. Id do vault of glass 3x a week. Same with Crota and Oryx. But I never even finished the 4th raid because there was nothing I needed from it.

This is MMO 101. Maybe it can be annoying to work hard for gear and then have it obsolete, but the most important thing in keeping people engaged is the grind, progression. When you run out of stuff to do, you quit playing. You don't hop in and look at your awesome gear for the hell of it.

Except they completely shite on that concept because you can now level up any legendary or exotic to whatever level you want

That's a bold statement.

I could give three shits about gear transferring, I just wish shaders/emblems transferred.

You know, SOMETHING to make Year 1 players stand out.
