I guess the PS2 and PS4 as leading consoles can't be wrong. So maybe it's just us?

Could be, but I'm pretty damn sure no one bought it for the controllers.

it's so ugly. it looks like a parody of a video game controller.

this debate is way too technical for me

All Scruffy is saying is that to use the joystick on a PS controller, you have to turn your thumb partially sideways and move it "corner to corner" to go forwards and backwards. If the joystick were on the left, where it should be, you just push your thumb up and pull it down for the same motion.

The motion with your thumb doesn't match the motion that you see, sort of. Ok it is hard to explain.

it was a big factor for me. I just, for whatever reason, don't like xbox controllers and the ps4 is just perfect, again for reasons I may not understand.

gamecube is still the best though, I just keep my finger on the gigantic A button and move accordingly because A is the one used most often. on ps2,3,4 I keep my right thumb just to the left of square. once in a blue moon (for quicktime events) I frick up because of this, whereas Nintendo style controller I would just slide to the right one because I have it on the center button.

but direction is relative, I'm moving the thumb in the same direction, but it just starts at an angle, eeeh

that seems like a stretch.

Can we all agree that the Console Companies should have a come to Jesus and label their right-side buttons exactly the same? Nintendo and Xbox are the worst with nearly the same usage.

Just once. It won't hurt anyone. Please. This will make everything from guides online to memory and habit far easier.

Well, Nintendo taught us all that B comes before A. The Xbox controller labeling totally throws me off. I can handle PS because it's completely different.

gamecube is awesome, like I said, you keep your finger on what is essentially a middle button and slide it in one of three directions.

gamecube may be an ugly controller, but don't confuse it for a poor one...it's the best pick up and play controller post SNES

I wouldn't mind at all if other controllers had a smaller, tighter stick for the right analog (like the GC). It's almost exclusively used for camera and not action commands, so it makes sense for the stick to be different

I wouldn't disagree for most games.

But for FPS and Fighting games it blows. Everything else is pretty good.

I didn't think GameCube was bad for Smash Bros.

the analog on ps is my favorite, the right side button layout on gc is the best...the top buttons I'm indifferent to on almost everything (save for xbox with the triggers)

I do like that controllers are essentially the same across the last 3 console generations.

BUUUUUT, nothing is more annoying than no backward compatibility. the single most annoying fricking thing. why can't I play a ps3 game on a ps4...what the frick

Nobody does. It's not my reason, but it's probably the number one reason the controller is still popular. Competitive smash players love it

Yes. This is one reason I enjoy games on PS4 and save keyboard games for PC usually. I know the PS buttons and when I play games on Pc with my 360 controller I always get confused, especially with button prompts.

Honestly, I don't think it was used that much to begin with. People make a big deal of it but in a couple of years there are more than enough games on the new consoles. I know I have rarely used this feature and if it is a big deal you can just use your old console.

i've been jamming on the gamecube recently (because bloodborne is fricking boring )

I still play ps3 games, and like I mentioned I have nothing to play on ps4...I'm not trying to make my living room look like some fricking frat house

Well it was literally built for Smash.

I mean the rest. At the time, MK, etc.
