The placement is abnormal and requires the use of excess energy and movement for the base directions.

Explanation:

The left joysticks purpose base purpose is forward and backwards. When the joystick is placed in the position like the Xbox controller, forward and backward are simple, natural movements involving the bending and extension of the thumb only.

When it is placed in the position on PS controllers, it complicates the movements. It requires bending the thumb and lateral movements which slows down movement speed. This is one of the reasons PS controllers are not used for pro-gaming.

The location of the right joystick is correct since left and right are the base directions, and like the left joystick should be, those movements require only bending and extending the thumb.

It is science and anatomy.

Sony is anatomically ignorant.

WTF are you talking about?

What games do you play that are like this?

The left stick is all movements, up, down, left right.

The rights stick is all movements but for camera, up,down, left, right

Of course they can go those directions, but the basic movements are forward and backwards.

The purpose of the left joystick is movement. Forward and backwards are the primary movement directions. Walking left and right are secondary. If you want to walk left, you don't press left on the joystick. You turn the camera and walk forward.

The same goes for the right joystick. Turning left and right are the primary directions. Up and down are secondary.

You can try to debate that all you want, but it is true.

The PS controller's left joystick placement forces you to use the thumb motion allocated to the secondary directions as the movements for the primary directions.

It is inefficient.

That shite isn't even facts so stop stating it as so.
I use left and right just as much as I use forward and more so than backward, on the left stick.

I use the right stick about even throughout.

I don't know what games you play where what you are stating is the case but okay. This is a dumb argument.

If you don't strafe as much as you move forward when you are in any combat situations in a FPS or games like Bloodborne, I don't know what to tell you.

This one was weird bc the stick was oriented for right hand control and the knob on top was huge. Horrible design imo. I remember asking for it with my Sega Master System bc I had never played with a control pad before. The stick sucked.

I remember after I discovered the S controller, I was ecstatic. When we would have our Halo LAN's, people usually would bring their own controller plus an extra in case someone came without. We kept the beasts just to have one, and there were people who would actually prefer them.

Freauxzen, we are on the same page here.

You understand.

I have a PS4. I like it, but the joystick placement and movements aren't natural.

You get used to what you play with eventually.

this debate is way too technical for me

the stick goes up and down and left and right and I don't frick up because of the controller (which the 360 I felt I had to almost move my whole hand up)

but I have girl hands

Scruffy still needs counseling

Kidding.

But yeah. I don't mind it, and most of my play was on a PS2, and I hated that controller so much (Thankfully that was a lot of FF, Sukioden, and lots of non-action title games), but for anything that needs response time , ease of use and comfort give me the One, 360, or Wii Pro, GC, etc. over ANY PS controller. And the fact that they've stuck to that design for the most part is mind boggling. But I guess the PS2 and PS4 as leading consoles can't be wrong. So maybe it's just us?

I didn't realize I had the wrong xbox controller in the OP. I should've done the original one, not the redesigned S. Fixed.
