It's just screenshots aren't a good standard to judge graphics on. A lot of stuff makes a scene feel real like soft shadows, dynamic lighting and ambient occlusion which most console games don't even offer.
Just saying screenshots might look great, but inside the world is how you judge. Would love to see what naughty dog could do given a powerful system. They had to have pushed the PS4 to the limit.
Edt: It's not hate at all though. Just think screenshots aren't the best at judging visuals.

The Colorado University scenes are my favorite in tLoU. Some of the best in any game.

I'll be on the receiving end of some vitriol for this one, but Skyrim absolutely blew me away when I popped the disc in on 11.11.11. On PS3. I didn't get to experience the wonder of mods on PC until much much later. But I'll never forget those first few hours staying up way too late.

Wow. I never played FF13 but that does look awesome.
Not worth $60 but it is worth its weight in gold for what i got it for during the steam sale.

Yeah, Skyrim looked fantastic.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Star Wars Battlefront. Although it was pretty shallow in game play, it's certainly a gorgeous game.

I like the art style in the Long Dark.

Doom 3 wasn't that good as a game, but was a great way to benchmark your cards.
Mrs. Midnight was a big Doom fan. She probably played as much Doom 2 as I played Skyrim. But, Doom 3 creeped her the frick out. That, plus I couldn't get a joystick to work as she was used to (she never made the FPS transition to keyboard and mouse), she ended up not playing it very much.

Totally agree! Sometimes the animation adds to the look of the game. "Best Looking" is such a generic and subjective criteria too. I think a game like Brigador is an amazing looking game while someone else may look at it and think it looks like a crappy 90s mech PC game.

Sorry. Got to help out the PC side a bit. If you have they system to run ARMA 3 full bore...I just dont think anything else compares. Witcher 3 is a close second

As you pointed out, there is more to a game's look than a bullet list of features.

The order was a fantastic looking playable movie

You just described Uncharted.
Edt: does The Order have less or more cutscenes?

The order was not a good game, just pretty.

I remember the water in Super Mario Sunshine being impressive. Not out of the gun, but in the environments.
It's still some of the best water effects I've ever seen and the game is old as shite now. Very impressive indeed.

Idk if ive ever pkayed Super Mario Sunshine. What Mario game before and after Sunshine?
Edt: Will need to try this out on an emulator.

quote:If you're talking "main line" Mario games, Super Mario 64 came before and Super Mario Galaxy came after. I suspect you have a powerful enough PC so you should be able to emulate it just fine using Dolphin once you find the iso, which isn't difficult.
What Mario game before and after Sunshine?
Edit: Oh, and I thought the water effects and just tropical look of the game was beautiful back in the day...I just didn't like it as much as other Mario games. There are some really frustrating parts in that game.
