Also, can I use my 1080p 120hz vizio smart tv as a monitor at first to save money?

See sig, start reading. Then we'll discuss graphics card options because there have been some recent releases that I haven't had the chance to add into the guide.

ETA: You can use your TV as a monitor, but depending on its size and the distance you plan to be from the monitor, you won't be pleased with the visual quality or the atrocious input lag.

It's a great guide if you want to build your own. I am sure there are some that will make recommendations if you want them to, if you want to pick your own parts post them here for feedback before buying, imo.

yes, you can. 120hz on a tv is not the same as 120hz on a monitor. Tvs use software to add frames in between frames to get the smoothness effect(lots of input lag from this), whereas monitors actually display a full 120 frames per second or hz.

The tv will probably have something like "gaming mode" or you can turn switch it to 60hz. That would knock out a lot of the lag.

It really depends on what type of games you're wanting to play too. If you're play single player games then a tv is great but if you're playing primarily FPS games then TVs can be shitty due to the input lag.

Definitely post the part list so we can refine it. The guide will at least get you to a point where we won't have to first talk you out of noob mistakes, like getting a $300 motherboard and a $200 CPU coupled with a $75 GPU.

Logical Increments

I was planning on using this website. Take a look at the $1014 and $1125 builds and let me know what you think of the parts they have picked.

sometimes, different companies use slightly different technologies with their own name. Most of them call it that though.

Their recommendations aren't bad, but a little broad sometimes and don't take into account sales sometimes. You can get a 7950 cheaper than that if you watch for sales. Also if you want to overclock or just game makes a difference.

My recommended build. Been a while since I've done this!

Edit: I would buy that PSU while it's still on sale

ILikeLSUToo's guide is very good!

I referenced the website below when I built mine. They usually come out with one every month or quarter.

TomsHardware - $650 Build

TomsHardware - $1300 Build

keep in mind the TH builds are not necessarily primarily gaming computer builds.

Since I'm sure no one has read my guide from start to finish, I'll just say that Blue's build is absolutely what you should get for your $1,000. Any additional tweaks I would make would just be splitting hairs. The liquid cooler is optional if you want to shave the $80-90 off of the price and just go with the Hyper 212+ or evo instead.

I know rebates are annoying. But they are rampant in the PC hardware market. A $10 rebate here and there may seem like more trouble than it’s worth, but they add up to be a fair sum of money that can sometimes equate to getting the performance of a $700 PC for $600. If you follow directions, the companies do reliably make good on their rebate offers, and the whole process shouldn’t take you 30 minutes if you just mail them all at once. The only real drawback is that you have to temporarily tie up more money than your budget allowed (6–8 weeks unless you pay a couple of dollars to each company for rush processing).

Logical increments is too broad and produces poorly optimized builds. Tom's Hardware is OK but still slightly stupid.
