My 9 year old has outgrown the pe version. Is Xbox better than PS3 for Minecraft, vice versa, or does it matter?

If this is a retarded question, have mercy on me. Other than Wii Mario or MK, I haven't played a system since FFX came out on PS2.

microsoft bought minecraft not long ago. which makes me believe going forward the brighter future for minecraft is on the xbox.

that's if you want to go with the console version. which the console version is more user friendly than the PC version. but the PC version is definitely the best version.

So are you looking to purchase a new system based on this?

And by pe version, do you mean PC?

Yeah, but it's going to be for a 9yr old that is not huge on electronics. Except recently with minecraft. My point is, I'm sure we'll pick up other games here and there but he's years away from any of the really cool stuff that either system has to offer.

I'm guessing the basic console for either system will support minecraft just fine huh?

No, pocket edition. The version on the iphone/ipad's. There are limitations to what's available on that version for obvious reasons.

All of his friends play on xbox or playstation so I'm sure that'll be enough for him.

So if I went xbox, he wouldn't be able to play multiplayer with playstation buddies right?

Correct. Not cross-platform.

Definitely get whatever his buddies are playing on. If it's PS3, that might be better because PSN is a free service. Xbox live is around $50 or $60 a year, depending on where you shop for a card (could even be cheaper). You can definitely do a lot more on PC, but for a 9 year old, he won't care and he'll just want to play with his friends.

PC version is definitely the best. I enjoyed the XBox 1 version but PC is better.

Got it, I'll see what most of his friends have and go with that.

Thanks guys

That's only for the ps4, I think. I wasn't forced to pay for it until I upgraded to the 4. I could be wrong though.

trying to get my nephew to play right. He says he loves the game, I let him play and he has no concept of anything but blowing stuff up in creative mode.

PSN is still free on PS3, which was the version he was discussing.
