Yes.
You could also restore your health with beer and porkrinds. But too much booze would make you tipsy.
You had to shoot the mosquitoes. One of them got you and your health would drop about 3 points.

GOAT game, hands down.

Lot of ones already mentioned.
Doom
Quake1 and Team Fortress
HL and of course Counter strike when it came out
UO
Starcraft
I would say those consumed 90% of my youth pc gaming with counter strike being released in the early 00s taking most of that. The sad thing is I sucked so bad at CS even with the hours of game time.
honorable mentions: Sierra games like leisure suit Larry, swat/police games. Sim city.
I will say that I never got into quake 2. I was way more into quake 1. Quake 1 was my intro to multiplayer fps.
Good times playing games until the early morning with no cares in the world.

I didn't play mainstream pc games until the late 90s, but I loved starcraft, diablo and everquest.
How could I forget half life and CS, day of defeat and other mods.

AoE2 was the shite because you could LAN with just 1 disk.

EQ, Quake, Doom, for sure. Those are the easy ones.

Best RTS game of the 90's BY FAR. Played the shite out of this. Always thought it was so much better than Starcraft

System Shock 2. I'd still probably pick it as the greatest video game ever made. It pioneered a lot of game elements that are staples today.

All my time was in EQ.
Loved that game. I'd probably give the original a go if there was some way to play still.

Pretty much all point and click adventures. Including Putt-Putt.

After my kids have been running their mouth about beating me in Halo and Doom on Xbox, I setup my PC's to play Doom 2 and set forth the challenge. I knew that controller was limiting my skills as I completely destroyed both of them!
Downloaded Duke Nukem and Quake as well.

Can you still get this version of the game? I think there are new ones but it's not the same.

Yes. Steam has them, as do most of the other online game sellers. You can usually pick up 1 and 2 with all of the expansions for a few bucks during sales.
If you do download them, get OpenRCT to go along with 2. Greatly improves an already great game. The RCT forums and subreddit are still very active.

I recall countless hours in the 90's playing:
Age of Empires
Age of Empires II
Command and Conquer Red Alert
Diablo
Gangsters: Organized Crime
and some other favorites
Constructors
Redneck Rampage
Doom (but on sega 32X)
Duke Nukem

Action Quake 2
This was one of the best FPS ever made. I've still never played a more fun FPS. There are still a few servers that have regular people playing, mostly in other countries.

I still think this is the best riff on Civilization, to date.
