Also, price point is a huge deal for me. If an entree is anything over $20 (besides steak), it better blow my socks off or I'm likely not going to eat there again. Food does not cost nearly that much to make and I can easily find great food for less.

Well that's limiting. I'm going to assume you're young and also unfamiliar with high end food costs. Not knocking you.

It's just very hard to make many dishes at home for two with premium proteins and multiple ingredients for a low price point.

Steaks are one of the things I don't like to pay for at a restaurant because it's usually protein, salt and pepper and I can do it a high quality easily at home.

I like to eat things at restaurants I can't easily replicate or its not economically friendly for two.

Yep.

Part of the issue is I just don't have the financial capability of eating high end restaurant food. Frankly, I don't know that I would be eating that even if I did. There are plenty of places to eat fantastic food that don't cost $40/entree.

I hear ya. I probably thought the same at some point, but I also bet you never thought you'd be paying $15 for a bottle of beer either though. I would have bet the farm 10 years ago that I wouldn't ever be paying more than $300 for a meal and now it's the things I look forward to on trips.

So a place known for their wine list and whisky selection is a piece of shite if they don't have a carefully selected craft beer selection because OP is a beer snob?? What if a place had 50 "carefully selected" taps but only a few boring whiskys and just house wine?? I bet OP would love it

Unless it's a burger joint, if a restaurant's tables are automatically equipped with a bottle of ketchup then chances are that the upcoming meal will not be of the highest quality.

Well that's a dumb rule

Definitely, what if it's an outstanding restaurant that happens to also be kid friendly?? I guess kids are a no-no for Steve as well

Never order seafood at a steakhouse. Never order steak & a seafood joint.

Exactly. When I travel I only order food specific to that region. I was in Seattle last weekend. Hello halibut and cod! Why would I order chicken or steak?

STA: Of course we went to seafood restaurants.

I'm always hesitant to eat places with HUGE menus. How can they cook fresh if they have every kind of food ever on their menu? :sassy emoticon:

I know I know.
From what I remember you are a chef? I understand that food is your life or a big part. Was not calling you out.
I guess chefs are a bit gruff. Cool.
You won't get me to not like you.

I think the only rule I have.... if I've been sat for more than 10 minutes and no one has brought me a water or greeted me, I leave....
