With all of these refined palates, I know this would never happen to anyone here

I don't think anyone is going to argue that the setting and our own preconceived expectations heavily influence our judgement on food.

you eat with your eyes first. Food that looks really good already has you salivating and expecting a positive outcome. If fast food looked like it were advertised it may "taste better". When we get fast food it generally looks like slop and the taste is nothing special. But if you dress it up you will trick your mind.

I can't believe I just watched that.
The entire video is in a foreign language, and I'm not sure the people interviewed were "foodies". It looked like a little food expo with a mix bag of people.
Looking purely from the pictures of the food, it looked like McDonald's quality food. The tomato was not ripe and the nuggets looked awful.
As others have said, your eyes can certainly deceive you. I would be interested to see a more controlled experiment thant his particular case, in English (ideally).

The video said they told the people it was an organic alternative to fast food. So mcdonalds was the ceiling for their expectations.
