Why isn't Indian food more popular?

Thai restaurants are everywhere these days. Chinese, Japanese, and Korean are staples of any sized city. We even have several Vietnamese restaurants. But it's over an hour to the nearest Indian restaurant and even in major cities, they feel under-represented. I also feel like Indian food fits into American food culture better than other Asian cuisines. Massive servings with tons of delicious meat of all types. And lots of veggie options.

Not sure... Here in Baton Rouge we have several good Indian restaurants to choose from. Some people from New Orleans have even said we have better Indian options than they do.

My husband and I eat Indian food a couple of times a month. Every time he visits a new city for work (i.e., expense account and eating out every day), we scout Yelp reviews and he tries any Indian restaurants in the area.

ETA: As most ethnic restaurants are run by people actually from the region of the food's origins, obviously there would be more Indian restaurants where a larger community of Indian immigrants live. I know an Indian family here in town, and one reason they decided to stay in the area after finishing LSU grad school was that they had a good Indian community in town.

It's getting there. Shreveport has two, and Bossier has one, so it is not so rare. I can remember though, a few years ago, you had to got DFW to get Indian near here.

It's pretty popular in Dallas. But I do think a lot of people are afraid of Ghee. I have heard several people claim it made them sick. Also, A lot of Indian restaurants are white table cloth which turns a lot of people off.

Only a billion + like it. It's an awesome cuisine. It's under represented in LA as most here are MDs/JDs. Give it time. It will spread.

I tried to get a spot for an Indian dinner at dinner lab next week and it sold out in 2 hours.

Everyone who has it likes it I agree. I just think it's odd that it does feel underrepresented. Sure, we dont have many Indian people here. But we don't have much diversity here. 95% of my town is Protestant white and most foreigners who live here are from Eastern Europe/Russia or South America (so many fricking wonderful hot foreign MILFs). But there's like 3 Thai restaurunts in a town of 15k.

The reason I bring this up is I went to an Indian restaurant in Chicago and I forgot how fricking good Indian food was and they literally gave me too much food. I tried to post the picture from my phone but I don't know how. And it was a nice 3 star restaurant and the entrees were for like fricking only 20.

Baton Rouge does Greek and Lebanese better than most large metro areas. My sister from Atlanta says we have the best Greek food and so do my friends from Tampa and Denver.

As an Indian, I find the restaurants in Baton Rouge horrendous. Al-Noor is the closest to authentic but even then...

I'm Greek and I've spent time in the Mediterranean. Atlanta has some good Greek restaurants, but I hesitate to call much of what we have as Mediterranean and I can't quite explain why. It's like we put too much thought into the dishes. The Mediterranean places I've been to cant do ham sandwiches worth a shite. The medeterrainian food we have in the U.S. is tasty but it's extravegant. I can't explain it.

Out there we have tons of Indian restaurants because of the large Indian population, which has gotten even bigger because of the tech bubble part 2. I really like it, and I haven't had more than maybe 1 bad experience.

Butter chicken ftw

Well, Chat. What's wrong here? These joints run by Chinese? Or worse yet, Americans?

We have an Indian restaurant in Mecca run by...Indians...and it's fine. Why is BR fricked up?

Race has nothing to do with it. Indians run them all in BR as well. Just Indians who cant cook worth a shite.
