meal there" when praising a restaurant? It drops my interest level rapidly when I read or hear it. It sounds like the meals are just above bad. It's said quite often on this board.

Why not say:

"I've enjoyed every meal there."
"All of my meals there have been great."
"I've never had less than a stellar meal there."

I ponder this in my spare time along with why people refer to people as "that". I know people "that" say it. I know someone "that" does it. What's up with that? How about I know people WHO say it?

I'm not drinking. Maybe I should say I am, though.

Thanks Degas.

While I don't ponder why they say it, I mentally correct this error while people are talking.

Them: "I have a friend that..."

Me: "I have a friend WHO!!..."

I make the correction to myself so that I will continue to have friends.

This has come up before. It baffles me that anyone sees it as a negative. Some places have exactly one thing I like. If I've never had a bad meal there, not only are they solid across the board, they are consistent in preparation.

I'm not talking about the example you give. I'm talking about situations in which the person gives a restaurant lavish praise or a lot of praise and then say s/he has never had a bad meal there. I saw an example in the Vegas thread. One poster talked about how great Lotus of Siam (I believe) is and that he and his wife go every time they are in Vegas. He gave some details as I recall and then he said he'd never had a bad meal there.

Darla, I don't correct my friends either.

Makes sense to me. I'm still not seeing it.

What if they say "I've never had a GOOD meal there" - is it just as confusing?
