I wish we had Publix in the PNW.

Fred Meyer is a regional chain that is pretty good. Walmart hasn't taken hold in the Portland area because of Fred Meyer. The only Walmarts in Portland that I've seen are those Walmart Neighborhood Markets, and I've only seen a few of those. I think Portlandians are aginst them...

I do 99% of my grocery shopping at Matherne's on Highland. I live around the corner and am there 3+ days a week.

I dont really look at prices. Im not one of those people.

Don't let them hate. I don't either. Not in an absurd way, at least.

I realize that doing my entire shopping list at Whole Foods is stupid because it's expensive.

But the difference between Winn Dixie vs. Albertsons vs. Matherne's? Not dramatic enough to matter. I don't grocery shop in massive quantities because I am too prone to get cravings. The $50-$60 trips are not worth pulling the junk out of my mailbox and seeing which is cheaper on each individual item.

Generally, I go by distance. But, say, I have no beer at home.. I'm picking a store I can get the beer I want as well.

Interesting. I can't imagine not finding everything I want/need at my local Kroger.

If I'm doing a charcuterie night, which I love to do for date nights, the meats and cheeses aren't plentiful at a regular store like they are at WF.

Best meat department around here is Fresh Market. But Fresh Market is OUTRAGEOUS on produce and they don't even carry shallots.. and don't carry packaged stuff I need.. so off to produce stand I go.

Then I need random packaged/aisle items. Doesn't exist at Fresh Market, doesn't exist at produce stand.. off to Matherne's/Albertsons/WD.

This is not counting that I buy beer every other day or so, so as to always have what I want to drink in my fridge.

It all depends on the type of items you buy on a regular basis.
My mother only goes to Winn Dixie, and she finds what she needs.

This is why I can't shop according to price when it comes to normal stores. I would be in every store in the city if I cared about $1-$2 differences on everything.

I disagree.

Stores are always clean, well lit, and the aisles are wide. They always have enough open check out lanes to where you don't have to wait too long.

Customer service is great, and they always have BOGO deals on stuff I want/need.
