THIS. there is a difference in food quality & taste between chain restaurants & non-chain restaurants, Raisin Bran taste like Raisin Bran no matter where you buy it. I have no problem buying milk, can goods, dry goods, or produce from chain supermarkets; I support my local businesses by buying fresh meats from my locally owned meat markets.

Well for starters they don't produce the vast majority of their product.
A box of cheerios from your local grocery store is the same as it is from Wal-Mart. Unless there is something special in the produce or meat department from one of these local stores then what's the point?

I'm pretty much the same way when it comes to grocery shopping. I'm not totally oblivious to price, but selection, quality, familiarity and convenience are far more important to me. Honest to God, I couldn't tell you offhand the difference in price for, say, chicken breast or tomatoes among Rouse's, Whole Foods or Fresh Market.

I can see that.
In Atlanta I am spoiled because my Kroger has huge selection.
In Savannah everything is scaled down.
Works out for me though because in ATL where I can get everything at Kroger, WF is 45 minutes away, but in SAV, WF is really close.
For others:
Publix may be overrated if you go in there thinking it is going to be amazing, but for a normal store they are very good. They are employee owned and non union and their customer service is consistently good.
