Wife's family still makes them from time to time. Never tried them, look like they would be kinda terrible.

I'd scrape that nasty arse cottage cheese off, clean out the pear with my T shirt, and eat the pear...that's what I'd do.

I believe it was considered dietetic and a meal replacement option in the 70's, there was a huge Dole campaign around it.

Mine used mayonnaise instead of cottage cheese.

I've also seen sour cream, I believe. Although, I haven't seen the dish in person in probably 30 years.
