I have grill pans and the long cast iron grill deals whatever they're called and I don't use any of them. I use the flat side of the cast iron on occasion, but not very often. I think it's because unless I'm grilling on gas or charcoal, I want an all over sear.

A grill pan basically neuters the chief advantage of cast iron skillet (in my opinion) because it creates less crust when searing meat because it is designed to make the protein look grilled.

Grill pans are a pin in the arse to clean. It takes less time and way less effort to heat up my outdoor gas grill for the same effect.

Chain mail rag a little soap and water. Done in a few seconds. Works good with grill grates and cast iron stuff. Very easy to clean any of that stuff with very little work.

Have one, made smoke alarm go off, never used again

And so easy to just turn on grill outside for quick stuff
