I think a grill pan would be nice on the new gas cook top. Who uses them, and what do you think of this one on sale today at Williams-Sonoma?

LeCreuset small grill pan

There is also a video that shows the pan being used.

I have a Calphalon one. It works well enough, but we honestly haven't used it in over a year. I personally wouldn't buy one (ours was a wedding shower gift) after owning one, but that's just my opinion.

Don't recommend it. It's a major pain in the arse to use and clean. Also causes the smoke alarms to go off every. fricking. Time.

I have one that I bought about 5 years ago. In that time I've used it probably less than 10 times. It wasn't a particularly high quality one, I figured it would be an experimental purchase. I don't see it as being a huge necessity, but perhaps I'm not thinking creatively enough.

I'd rather just use my cast iron.

The pic on the site you attached shows foods touching one another. What's wrong with you?

Yep, but you gotta get it real hot to do that, which sets off the smoke alarm.

It has more room than my other frying pans. the high sides make it easy to flip. I can finish stuff off in the oven. Don't have issues with smoke.

I have the cast version. Despite all the various ways people cook steak here, and the many I have tried to copy, the absolute best ribeyes I've ever cooked have been done by placing one of those(cast) on my gas grill with all burners on high. Let get to max heat. Cook on that thing in the gas grill. Much better sear without any chance of flame ups.

We have this aluminum one from BB&B. Use it a lot. This morning as a matter of fact,

The pic on that link cracked me up. There are a dozen of mushrooms with perfect one time grill marks...using a wooden spoon! I wanna see how that took place, and good luck getting all of those chopped onion pieces out with that utensil too. The poor bastard also left their wooden utensil on the grill, so I'm assuming that he/she is a couple pickles short of a barrel.

(Yes, I know it's a pic for show, but I found humor in its outlandishness)

This. I've used mine twice in 3 years, because cleaning it is such a bitch.

I use mine occasionally. It is a Lodge. It doesn't suck that much to clean it. Just spray it with the hottest water when you're done cooking and knock off any debris with a kitchen brush. Toss it back in the oven to dry off and then apply a little oil. Just like the rest of my cast iron.

I don't use it nearly as much as my regular cast iron, but when we're cooking pork chops or steaks inside, it is great.
