Unc you getting that bottle at retail?
Posted on 5/6/15 at 8:48 am to JCANS
OK guys. I was able to get another bottle of Cured Oak yesterday. I know a lot of you guys are looking for a bottle so I am willing to trade it to someone for something of similar retail and secondary value. There are plenty of bottles that fit this description. So if you want it hit me up at jflsufan@gmail.com.
I got this bottle in Baton Rouge so preference goes to someone local to Baton Rouge and is offering an Eagle Rare 17 or Lot B. But will consider all offers.

How much is Cured Oak selling for at retail? All the reviews I have read are mediocre at best, so I would be careful paying too much. I still want to try it, but I am concerned that all of the hype is driven by its limited supply and not by its quality. Let's here some local reviews as compared to EHTSB.

$76 retail(this is with tax). All reviews I have seen have been glowing. Have yet to crack mine. Wouldn't be surprised if people claiming it is mediocre are ones trying to drive down the secondary market/demand.
JFLSU, where did you manage to find another bottle? Driving an LTZ Chevy, able to buy all this whiskey. Something about that story of you needing to scalp that bottle for christmas funds is sounding more and more BS. Either that or your bad at managing money haha

I do not drive a Chevy LTZ. It's a GMC Sierra Denali. I did lose my job in November but was asked to come back in early January so December was a scary month for me. I thought it to be financially responsible for me to recoup some of the money that I spent on Bourbon at that time.
Anyway, I have tried a sample of the Cured Oak and it is good. It's certainly not $300-$400 per bottle good but what really is? To be quite honest I think I prefer the Single Barrel. Other opinions may vary but that is my take.

Nice haul this week. Thanks for the comparison with EHTSB. To me, the 17 yr age is more interesting than the cured oak angle. Couldn't agree more with your assessment of $400 bottles.

I read a review that pretty much stated just that, but still rated the bourbon rather high (an A I believe).
ETA: Here it is, from Drinkhacker.com LINK
quote:
The E.H. Taylor Cured Oak bottling offers lots of fruit on the nose, surprising for a whiskey that, remember, is 17 years in barrel — making it, by far, the oldest E.H. Taylor ever released. Red apple, some cherry, and mint hit the nostrils… all preludes for an engaging and impressively complex body. Lighter than you’d think given the 100 proof alcohol level, it pushes more of that fruit on the palate, laced with vanilla and a bit of lumberyard, before settling into a sultry, dark cocoa note. Beautiful balance, moderate but lush finish.
Taylor Cured Oak goes down much too quickly, and my sample vanished well before I was finished exploring its charms. That said, this is likely a whiskey that is likely defined more by its advanced age than the extra few months the lumber spent in the sun before they turned it into barrels.
But that’s just my analysis.
No matter. My advice: If you see it, buy it without hesitation.
100 proof.
A / $70

this is all it is... i wouldn't trade any of the BTACS except maybe a THH for a cured oak at this point. im sure the cured oak is good but i find it hard to believe its anywhere near Stagg, ER17, etc etc
it's an experiment BT did with cured staves, that's it

I noticed some people posting some EC barrel proof recently. Is this something that just randomly shows up on shelves or are there usually release periods. Love the 12 year and have been wanting to get my hands of some of the barrel proof

The proof is too high for me to even consider purchasing it....well, that and the price Dorignac's is charging.

I let an extra one go at retail to 3HourTour yesterday.

I vat a 60/40 ratio of ECBP and EC 12 and its delicious. Comes in somewhere around 110 proof but you can play with the percentages for a different taste like you do with Poor Man's Pappy.
I can provide a sample to anyone that wants to try it.

I tried it and agree with this. It's really good and worth $70-80 IMO.
