Other than word of mouth on here or friends recommendations, are there any websites that you guys turn to for reliable reviews of different whiskeys?

I picked up a bottle of the russell's reserve 10 year small batch, and just started sipping on it (pretty solid ). I also picked up a bottle of Angel's Envy, but haven't opened it yet, and I noticed it has stuff floating in it. I called the liquor store, and they said it was fine, has anyone every had this issue?

A little burn due to the proof...a light splash of water helped open it up a bit

This was discussed and debated a recent scotch tasting...for me it means 3-10 drops...more for a barrel proof.

Most stuff I don't add anything though. It's a matter of taste though...if a whiskey burns so much you feel you are not registering the flavors or it feels tight then some drops fan really help.

In Seattle for work and figured I would check out a grocery store's whiskey selection downtown. This place makes Dorignac's look like a bargain. Yes that says $59.99. The Basil Hayden's was 79.99.

GeauxColonels, my go to for whiskey reviews and determining what I'm trying next is LINK they take results from various spirit competitions and give them different weights to come out with a composite score out of 100. Hasn't steered me wrong yet

Exactly, 3 times the price, I would be ordering all my stuff from internet retailers or buying/drinking a lot less. I would imagine items aren't prices like that outside the downtown area

That's crazy bc.. this year I have boughthe quality bottles in downtown DC and in the financial district in nyc...they weren't as cheap as nola, but by a reasonable /EastCoast-Big city amount. don't show butch at d'nacs that photo..he may get ideas.

saw the price of that bullet rye and nearly shat myself. Thats a $20-25 whiskey, never higher than 30.

I have noticed a two or three dollar jump in a lot of rank and file quality bourbons recently in baton rouge though. like where turkey, buff trace, and eagle rare were 20-22 for the longest time, im now paying 24.99 at walmart for turkey 101. been buying Jim Beam black a lot cuz its very good and maybe 19.99 or 20.99 and if im looking to polish that bad boy in a day or two, its worth saving the 5 bucks

Since we're all in agreement that Dorignac's prices at a hefty premium, what other places are there in the NOLA area besides Martin Wine Cellar and other groceries like Rouses?

The redone Martin's on Baronne has a damn good selection at fair prices. Not quite the quantity of Dorignac's but close.

Rouses on Tchoup is my spot for EWSB and BT handles. I may have 1 or 2 other spots but those are the places with the best selections.
