Is it a crime to mix elmer with coke?
Honestly, if you're still into mixing things, don't spend more than $20 on a fifth. Coke will make everything sweet and more palatable. Keep mixing and keep adding more and more whiskey and less and less coke until you get to just whiskey then start paying more for your whiskey. That's the way I taught myself to drink whiskey on the rocks.

I made the switch to mixing it with water...then less water more ice...then drink faster before ice melts...then just a cube or a sliver.

What about using the rocks that are put in the freezer?

If talking ice molds, Those are great as a typical "rocks" pour, same concept--just slowly waters down the bourbon.
If whiskey stones, don't bother.
If you're still trying to ween off the mixers...I'd say go straight to half whiskey/half water with some ice. I'd use the next level up from Beam/Turkey...anything like Bulleit, Maker's etc. If you wanna to a little cheaper, try Charter.
You'll soon realize how easy that goes down, and will gradually increase the bourbon & decrease ice/water.

I need to find some Elmer. No where in Baton Rouge/nola for a reasonable price? Not the $90 at dorignacs someone mentioned.

Nowhere around here...I'm hoarding my last bottle until I find another
Best bet is to search around on any road trips you might be taking. Could be some gems out there, a few folks on here who live outside this area have been fortunate.

Bought a bottle of wlw12 yesterday and made a 50/50 with what I had left of my OWA107. Pretty damn good I must say. Easy sipping and goes down nice. Glad I can find both of them at the same store pretty readily.

Elmer is actually a pretty good find these days
From what I was told yesterday it's out of stock at the distributor and already allocated when it does arrive.
Edit - I was in St. Louis last weekend and looked around up there as well, unfortunately there was none to be had in the places I stopped. I happened across my only bottle at an out of the way liquor store traveling home to LA for Thanksgiving.

I know.. That's why I said it's a good find if you happen to run across it.

Have had several liquor store employees tell me differing stories on ETL's future, which could have added to its sudden allure. It seems scarcity is fueling the demand.

I keep hearing it'll be a limited release but no one knows for sure yet. Looks like another great affordable bourbon we won't be able to pick up much anymore though.

I've also heard that along with Mr. Lee "taking the recipe to the grave". I don't believe that one. What I do believe is that like other things in life there's more interest in it since his death... which is also common with musicians.

well they defintely cancelled the ETL private barrel program since the first of the year so there's that....
